At £425 in the Uk, for an inferior model to what everyone else gets, Sony should hang their heads in shame. Its not much better than the X-box 360, how can they justify the price?

Well whilst in Curry's this morning i was quite shocked that whilst talking with the manger apparently despite what was said the PS3 is not backwards compatible with PS1 & 2 games. They had loads in and had hardly sold any. Apparently even Blu-Ray Players aren't moving and the prices are dropping already. I no longer play games so it's of very little interest to me but apparently even Blu-Ray films are not really shifting either and the same can be said for HD-DVDs. Personally i think once the prices start to drop people will be more interested after all so many now have HD ready Flat screens they must want HD or Blue Ray films to watch. I was also told that one of the problems with Blu Ray is currently it doesn't support HD sound formats which seems kinda stupid to me.

why do you say the UK one is inferior? I'm guessing bvecause of the backwards compatibility thing....
The difference is that the Japanese units have the Emotion Engine chip from the PS2 and so use PS2 hardware to play PS2 games. In the UK units the PS2 chip has been removed and backwards compatibility is done through software emulation.
However this doesn't mean it is inferior....
Firstly it already plays many PS2 games and the rest will be added by updates, similar to the 360.
Also the emulator s/w can be updated and improved and finally it means it is using the PS3 hardware rather than dated PS2 components, it may even be better to use the UK method
