@dogmann
I simply can't see how you can Ericsson would have been better off without Sony.
I'm afraid you're the one looking at Ericsson through rose-tinted specs. The truth is that whether you like it or not Sony Ericsson is a successful company, all of the figures show that.
What proof have you got that Ericsson Mobile by itself would have been a rip-roaring success? Thats right - none. Harking on about the good old days does no-one any favours. The only reason Ericsson Mobile didn't have any problems was that the most advanced technology that had to incorporate into their devices was EDGE and Bluetooth? Hardly a great feat is it?

The aim of the company is to be the make the best mobile products in the world. It needs money to invest and its gets this from growing the business. If that means making cheap phones then it is only competing squarely with Motorola and Nokia - whats wrong with that?
Bigger companies are more secure and are at less risk from being swallowed up by even bigger companies. Why is trying to be a bigger company such a crime?

imo both of u are right and have to admit, i just can laugh on se, BUT imo we shouldnt turn this thread into a /// vs se conversation, more to figure out, how comes, that se is so interested in low end market...

I was just about to say that Boba myself! This seems to be descending into a

Vs

battle, maybe that's for another thread!
I'd be intrigued to see what SE and Sagem come up with, maybe we'll see some more funky low-end phones!

@ Goldenface,
Well to start with Ericsson where the promoters and leading company in implementing Bluetooth i know because at that time i was well connected with Ericsson and their data products and used be given units for testing prior to launch for them. Also i don't get the point you are trying to make as other manufacturers have all manged to implement new technology in the same time frame. Why still no 3G -EDGE devices, no 30fps video, and all the other things there users want or need?
Forget about market share and marketing strategy and just look at one area, Quality control what ever you may think Ericsson produced a quality product. Just look here on this forum which by any ones classification is a Pro SE forum and read the threads full of unhappy people with complaints on their Walkman and Cybershot phones lack of volume, WSOD, Erom problems, a PC suite that doesn't work properly etc etc and this is what Sony have brought to the party in their quest for larger market share. Even the newly launched W880 a great looking phone where people are talking about the fact the left hand side of the keypad doesn't fit flush and one person reporting that the fixed it themselves by just squeezing it in place and it clicked in. Don't even get me started on the P990 that 8 months later so many are still far from happy and satisfied with. Sorry but all that glitters is not Gold and SE are really not doing a great job. No new announced phones for how long now?. First they were going to announce at 3GSM then Cebit then in Q1 who knows maybe Q2 or Q3 will bring some announcements. Sorry but IMO SE have nothing to offer me just now and nothing on the horizon either and that is a sad. As for longer than i can remember i have bought and loved Ericsson products but not any longer my M600 is probably the last SE device i will ever have.

I am quite aware of the connection between Ericsson and Bluetooth. Although, I am not sure why you told me this.
Also i don't get the point you are trying to make as other manufacturers have all manged to implement new technology in the same time frame. Why still no 3G -EDGE devices, no 30fps video, and all the other things there users want or need?
The point I am making is that as devices have evolved, they have become more complex and there are inheritantly bound to be more problems / issues. Show me a

phone as complex as a T68 and tell me whether or not there is the same or greater number of problems/issues with it.

Well where else are they gonna go with these issues? You'd hardly expect them to go to a Pro-Motorola forum.
Anyone would think no other OEMs had any issues with their phones! We should be grateful we have somewhere like Esato and se-nse.net and all their help and support in the first place.
You show me evidence that the number of issues

users have is disproportionally greater than the end-users of other manufacturers' devices? And don't say the evidence is right here in the Esato Forums because Esato is unique in there is hardly any other dedicated forums to compare it with.
Even the newly launched W880 a great looking phone where people are talking about the fact the left hand side of the keypad doesn't fit flush and one person reporting that they fixed it themselves by just squeezing it in place and it clicked in.
One person? One person found it didn't fit flush.
One person? I had an Ericsson T18s that started sqeeking and creaking and like mad and developed stiff buttons. I didn't lambast Ericsson for the next 7 years.
Don't even get me started on the P990 that 8 months later so many are still far from happy and satisfied with. Sorry but all that glitters is not Gold and SE are really not doing a great job. I have faith that

will deliver some nice devices soon. Maybe it felt that those events were not the right time to announce new devices. They're fully entitled to decide when they choose to announce new products.
I agree with you on your views on the P990i but I'll just hope they learn from their mistakes.

its clear SE is going for market share, the easyest way to get it is by lauching low end phones. most of SE phones are made by other companies. its cheaper for SE that anoter well known company also makes a few models for them, cutting cost and speeding up the proces (this also means getting an extra factory to produce phones).
keep in mind that the gap between SE and motorola is still big in term of marketshare 10m extra low end phones sold during one year won't close the gap, they need more.
being an ericsson fan/user from day one i also agree with the friends here, ericsson should've stayed solo, they had working prototypes that even SE can't/won't lauch today. while ericsson had some money problems, their last line of phones (T65/66/68/R600) where selling quite good because the design was cool, antenna internal and good quality. the day that SE splits and ericsson starts making phones again in the way they once did, that day would be the happyest day of my life!
back to sagem i would like to say that on mar 1 of 2007 sagem took a license from ericsson to use its mobile platform in new phones. so it will be much easyer and cost effective to work with SE, a specially when it comes to software.

did anyone argue when sony ericsson decided to sell phones designed, developed and produced by Quanta or Arima ? No.
Why argue now ? Just because alot more people know the Sagem brand ?

i did, because i don't like it when SE outsources phones, the quality isn't what it should be, this way SE loses custumors for life.

Hi all,
Listen i am not saying any one has to agree with my view but it is my view and i stand by what i say and think, what's more i even go as far as possible to quantify and validate my statements when asked unlike most. So it's not like i make sweeping statements and don't quantify them is it? and GoldenFace it was you that brought up Bluetooth not me and as it happens in it's early days implementing Bluetooth wasn't as simple or easy as you seem to believe either. In those days even getting infra red to work properly without going it an infinite loop was a task to get right.
So what you are trying to say because devices were simpler then it was easy to produce quality devices and now that it is more complex it is OK to produce lower quality devices well sorry but your logic here is without foundation.
Please be real this is not the only place that people are less then happy with the performance of in particular their Walkman phones which IMO is too much branding and not enough quality for what they are meant to represent. Why do we have to start discussing the fact that other manufacturers are also delivering less than acceptable quality or devices with issues. How can this possible make SE actions alright because others are also doing it that's just crazy. The other manafctures also should be taken to task surely, also whilst i accept that owing to the complexity of some devices and the fact they are pushing the boundaries they also have some problems on launch but look at how quickly these are addressed and the change log that accompanies them unlike SE's actions of late. People who on contacting customer service are told there is nothing wrong with the devices when everything else says different, i can't remember which one but one of the Walkman phones with the alleged hissing problem that SE denies exists and is not willing to release a patch for even though it was fine in the previous firmware. They just expect you to buy a newer device what great customer service they offer, we have your money so now we just don't care.
I think you will find there are quite a few people that hold if not the same similar opinions to mine, possibly many don't post because they don't want to expose themselves to the attacks from the SE fan boys that are like water off a ducks back to me and want a quite life. Why some can't bear to hear a bad word said about SE is beyond me and are happy to pretend they have no problems even to them selves is a mystery.
