Well, I do realize perhaps some of you are skeptical, but I dare not funk with your hearts as it is very important to me as well that SE is not screwing with any of us on this one. So as I said, I had the opportunity to try a Sony 8gb msdp in my P990, inserted it, opened the file manager, tapped on the ms tab and it opened instantly just as it would with my Sandisk 4gb, with the standard folders appearing. Then I took a test camera shot setting it to "memory stick preferred", and a short video clip with the same setting. I was quite surprised that the video was smooth as this would testify

I usually get choppy video unless I save it on the phone memory, so it was a very pleasant discovery. I then proceeded to file manager again, opened the DCIM folder on the ms, and copied the picture and video files on to my phone memory. It was 1.3mb in size and they were transferred swiftly as I would expect. NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER.

I also attach here the picture of the Sony store I took while testing the ms

I was very excited and the only thing stopping me from buying it was it its insane price tag. No doubt I'll get it though in a few months' time

As far as I'm concerned, MYSTERY SOLVED!

@Mode,
Where was the shop you tried the card in please? I really need 8Gb storage so it was a big blow when the one I bought failed, having seen you r post i am now begining to doubt the info I was given by "My Memory" maybe they had a duff batch of cards (not impossible) but they are usualy one of the most trustworthy of sources.

I'm sure yours was a dud, coz the one I tested really flew on my phone. Tested it at Sony Style KLCC in Kuala Lumpur. I'm gonna get a sandisk ms though, had a bad experience with sony before, maybe that's part of your problem back then. It's funny how skeptical people are on its compatibility, even the sales girl warned me it might be slow. I sure proved her wrong!

I'm still trying to figure out where this "Not in Service" place is. It must be the busiest town in the world!
