LOL I have a good idea! Just get one of those "only teenagers can hear it" ringtone and play it continuously on you phone on the highest volume! That's will drive them crazy!

Well there's none of that rubbish here in Colombia! People just don't use their phone for music or they always wear a headset when they do, even between friends. Anyway, people that ride the bus usually don't have music phones, not because they can't afford them, because they'll just get stolen anyway, and cheap phones are easier to replace.

yeah, here in Peru it's the same, to much thievery to take out the phone and play music loudly. Most people who do listen music from phones have walkman phones and those HPM-70 come in handy with noise cancelation.
Anyways the bus driver usually puts his own music, and that is for the whole public to listen to, but not in loud volumes gladly. Most music is acceptable I suppose, there aren't many people who listen to music from Mp3's in the bus.

Now that's a brilliant idea and I'd be tempted to use it, except that I can hear that tone loud and clear myself, so I'd be annoying myself too. Still, I might now keep a copy of that on my phone, just in case.

The worst part is when people with lowend nokias pull out their phone and start listening to their ringtones.
One time on the metro a guy came on with what at first I took to be a fan on a stand. Turns out it was a big speaker on a stand, a cae stereo in the base and obviousely running off a car battery.He then turned on a religious lecture. Nobody spoke up including me, that's what happen's when you're too timid :-/ And I complain about people listening to their crappy 6600 speakers.
