Has anyone see the Nokia proto of their touchscreen device.
(We don't care if it looks like an Iphone, at this stage, any touchscreen only device with a rectangular shape will be called Iphone clone so don't start a debate on this please)

It stated to come out some time next year:

lol you're funny... those improvements are minor on a phone that was already high-speced..it's an minor upgrade but a worthy one as i said.. and one i would get if the price is right...i like the n95 the only issues i had with it were ram, battery and build... and i know at least 2/3 have been fixed here

strip it down..

n95 8gig adds more ram, bigger screen, bigger battery and UI tweaking..
p1i adds more ram, better screen, bigger battery and UI tweaking..

i'm not here to start a war.. just not impressed with the lineup i was hoping to see the n82 as everyone has been talking about the n95 8gb for 3 weeks now...

I'm quite happy with my p1i but i'm not sure what relevance that has to this thread

the p1i has nothing to do with it, it's just a mix of p990i and m600...
anyway...i think that the music phones are nice, the N95 8GB is also great. i think to use the browser with mini maps on that screen will finally be fun. i am just also disappointed not having seen the announcement of N82 which i think was what everybody was waiting for...

It is very hard not to be excited by Nokia's plans for the future although personally i am not interested in their online music store even if it does have millions of tunes.

Well Said. But it took NOkia 2yrs to begin designing touchscreen within S60 since they announced the death of S90 & 7710. Still, I don't want touchscreen.

At the top of my mind I really cant think what more I'd want in a phone at the moment, but one area where they could improve, I know you'll disagree with me on this one is the basic OS. The best way to go would be the Linux way if you ask me, at the moment I'm using a ROKR E6, contrary to what many think the OS is wonderful, I write tiny programs for whatever I want personally. If the N95 had a totally open OS like linux it would be a dream phone and the possibilities infinite.

Are you insane? The Motorola Linux OS is STILL limited. And no vision of going anywhere. Can you access the terminal, the core Linux underpinnings? Can you even install LINUX (yum or other pkgs) applications? NO only Java apps based on the hooks into the linux os. The linux os is STILL just a mobile platform. Its not expanding in its capabilities at the moment & not anything shown/announced in the future. Your calendar capabilities are still limited compared to S60 and no real 3rd party apps to increase this functionality. The GUI has been around since the Accompli days - YUCK! Moto please change this. stylish phone but style is NOT enough for me.

I also Notice Nokia is learning how to market their multimedia computers properly in this webcast. "I can check weather, maps, play games on the plane or listen to music, and check my schedule/update it when I touch down". Reminds me of an OLD NTTDOCOMO commercial advertising smartphones on a highspeed 3G network.

i am waiting for the N82 as well. I am impressed and happy with todays display from Nokia. If the N82 will take too long, i might go for the new N95 8gig phone. After i have read some reviews on it though, but N82 or N95 anyone of them will be my next phone. Can't wait

Great new devices from Nokia. I was looking hard at the P1i but after seeing the N95 8gb with bigger screen, more ram and BIGGER 1200mah BATTERY, the P1i looks dated and old tech. Hopefully Nokia will have it in stores soon because I can't wait to get my filthy hands on it. The N-Gage platform is just icing on a already loaded cake!

SE lovers, read and weep

Some of the key points:

Nokia's announcement emphasized the new items' sleek design and slim size — one phone less than 10 millimeters thick — another apparent attempt to counterbalance Apple and its renown for design.

Since losing out to rivals that produced popular camera features and clamshell models several years ago, Nokia is regaining its dominance in part because it has already offered some successful smart phones.

In the second quarter, Nokia sold 100 million mobile devices — more than its three main rivals combined. It accounted for 37 percent of the global market, according to technology research group Gartner Inc. — up from 34 percent a year earlier.

P.S. I am still getting an iPhone. I will just have a bunch of devices to play with. Life is good.
