Unfortunately this review just confirms that SE is out to make a few quick bucks and doesn't really give a crap about its customers.
This is very unfortunate. SE is loosing fast all the glory and admiration (along with its customer base) it gained with the previous P900/910 series.
They don't seem to have learned any lessons from their P990 experience except increasing the RAM to 128 MB.
Currently I'm advising all those who ask me to definitely stay away from the current generation of SE UIQ3 phones (including the P1).
I could have lived with buggy firmware for a while longer but knowing that further updates (even if they do come) are not very likely to fix any of the major problems, it just seems illogical to invest in these crippled devices.
I'm sad about this situation as I used to be (still am) a devoted user of the former SE UIQ smartphones. Too bad SE had to annihilate this conception with poorly designed and barely tested UIQ3 devices.

while i admit the review looks bad i would still be interested in seeing the w960i myself. i will be the first to say why the f*** would se put the back button on the number pad insted of beneath the jog dial, it was stupid. however i still think the 960i has somethings to offer. yes the phone could do with better software and more r&d. however i still feel it is a fairly decent phone. mobile-review raised the question why should the w960i be purchased over the p1i? when you compare the 960i to the p1i u see that there not that much diffrent, i think that was why the review was so negative. se did not justify the extra $ that it will cost in comparison. despite what some would say the p1i was a step forward and in the right direction. there are some that will say that it was only an improvement in ram and they put in a camera, well guess what thats an improvement. no its not a holo projector or the fastest processor but its still a damn good phone. most people that had or have the m600 or w9650 wanted just those things to have the perfect phone at the time. and while yes there are people who have had problems with the p1and the phone had bugs 8 out of 10 users like or love the p1i, there has never been a phone that released without issues. again while ill admit se does do some things that get on my nerves such as releasing the same phone in a new body with 1 or 2 small improvements or cosmetic diffrences (w800-d750-w810, k800-k770-k810,p1i-w960) they have also managed to give us a few quality phones such as the 1's mentioned above. can se take some lessons from nokia in inovation sure but lets not forget that nokia has had many complaints about build quality, building materials and battery life in thier high end phones. Could they tale lessons from motorola on marketing sure, motorola sold a crap load of razr's just cause they were ''thin'', foget that thier as wide as a brick an ugly. apple sold a evolutionary phone to end all phones that cant send a chain text and has no edge or 3rd party support at 800 a pop. no phone maker is perfect no phone is perfect. if you dont want to pay the high amount for th 960i then wait a month, the price will drop and then maybe itll be more worth while. also remember its someone opinion alot of people who played with the 960 demo liked it some said it was better then the p1 still some will say its crap, to each his own. and if your buying a phone because its bleeding edge tech then itll be old in a month and ancient in 6 months. well thats just my .02 from my p1i none the less.

Good comments from all sides.
However, i am at the moment torn between N95-8GB or W960i or HTC TytnII
Any constructive inputs???
Many thanks
btw. it was a moment of great fun playing with the i-touch. Left me pondering about the i-phone

I really can't see how you can say it will have better sound as the N81 has a dedicated DSP chip and a 3.5mm jack, and we have all read the numerous complaints on this Forum about low volume on Walkman phones especially the Symbian ones. As for cut and pasting er it's a Music and gaming smart phone not a business smartphone.
Right, no, I said the w960 doesn't offer anything special, because it doesn't have any dedicated hifi- stuff. So, it probably won't have particularly better sound quality than any other phone.
Not that I would buy a phone with conductive rubber in the contacts, or with a dsp noone seems to know exactly the capabilities of, driven by a mobile battery, for the sake of sound quality...
But it would be a bit interesting to know how the n81 will handle it all. Whether the dedicated dsp will cause a generally greater battery drain, or whether it will mean there's the same battery drain on all bitrates, for instance. And if that would help when multitasking, for instance. And if it might turn out to be a very good tradeoff between power- use and sound quality, etc. That's the kind of thing that might make it a very good product - or make it an actual walkman phone (...if it didn't weigh a ton).
I don't think it is right THAT any MANFCATUER release devices with bugs but due to consumer apathy they continue to do so and until we the consumers show them this is unacceptable they will of course continue.
True, of course. Still, I think the arrogance of some of the campaigns some companies have launched to promote their phones is.. obscene. The same with the attitude when it comes to clear and serious lacks in hardware and software specification towards standards and so on. But yes - they do this because most users couldn't care less if their devices support pap or chap or certificates not pre- installed on their phones, and things of that sort. (Even if they're usually pissed off for a while when their mail won't work, and customer service tells them it is impossible, and may be fixed in a firmware sometime in the next century, that probably will only be fitted on the new model).
Anyway... about cut and paste - if you can browse the web and use wifi, you might want to pick up links and paths and so on, and paste them into your media- player, and things of that sort. Might be ok if you have a video- clip and want a description from where you downloaded it, etc.

All depends on where your priorities lie I would say.
Main points for me when buying one of the following:
HTC: The keyboard (love the query-ish keyboard, don't wanna live without it anymore

)
W960: Touchscreen/looks. I love touchscreen (especially with TomTom, agenda, etc). But other then that it has nothing that great (sure, 8GB is nice but most memcards come in 4gb already and 8gb will be coming too)
N95: Multimedia possibilities & GPS: faster cpu, better cam, gps.
So decide what you want most, I think then you can make the decision on the model you should buy.

I think all the new SE smarphones are the shit. they need to get their technologies up to date like the rest and compete with the best.
updating the camera to 3.2mp, adding 8gb flash is not a revolution step.
still the same crappy 802.11b, same crappy memory management OS, lack of flash, and no 3g frequency support for other sites around the world like U.S. i am not supporting sony.

It seems

is really faded to making only low-mid end products, feature phones in many different disguises and markets. The high end smart/tech business is not for

anymore, they might as well discontinue the P platform and focus on something else. It seems its happening already, instead of releasing a new P platform they decided to turn in into a feature phone to appeal more to the masses. Itīs sad but true. Nokia won the game a long time ago.

@dagrim1; thanks for the input.
I love SE phones till lately esp the P990i which is a great disappointment. Still using one 990i though. So i think i will skip W960i which is basically same user experience with my P990i.
As for N95-8gb and the TytnII, gosh its a hard choice....
Cheers

What about just testing out both of them? I mean, we're not talking about gigantic leaps in terms of response time or processing power here.. so it's mostly a matter of choosing a control scheme you're happy with. And the platform with the best or most useful software. I mean, I know a few people who have htc units, and it comes down to how it fits their use, and how it looks and feels. Others have different concerns - battery life, how large the screen is, amount of freeware, flash 2.0 support, gps, the design, the colours, etc. But it's not like one unit has some sort of immense advantage over the others (at least until you start to look at what you're going to use it for, specifically. Then the choice usually is easier).
