The existance of this accessory has not yet been confirmed.
Check the first post, it says that someone was looking through white papers and found that A200 is Wifi compatible but there are no A200 Wifi phones available. With having chosen to go the plug-in accessory route for GPS, this has led to speculation of a Wifi enabler accessory.

If are smart, they'll read this thread and build it. But with a marketing manager pouring cold water on the future of Wifi, I wouldn't hold my breath...

That's a marketing manager that should NOT be having such a job!
Reasons for WiFi:
* Consumers LOVE it because of the IMMEDIATE direct results it gives us.
* Allows the company able to promote UMA compatibility for providers & PBX for corporate usage. This allows (for now seemingly niche) for a growing market & demand coming DIRECTLY from PROVIDERS 1st (although the technology is already in place & cheaply & easily implemented), instead of designing phones that adhere to a providers network & try to MARKET for providers. BIG cash cow.
* Allows for accessories sales to slightly increase. A2 phones are going to total 5 by end of 2008 (K850i, W910, W890i, W760i, W980i, etc). If the demand for this WiFi-Enabler increases & a decision is made to manufacturer this what can this mean for SE?
- Allows for direct competition for Samsung & Nokia on their LIMITED Exclusive UMA based phones (design & feature set is shitty comparable not just to SE but to their own phone base) for providers already offering UMA (T-Mobile USA, possibly UK/Germany, Rogers Wireless here in Canada & Fido as well a subsiderary both just went live).
- Take not that ALL these providers already carry models of the A2 platform phones!!
- will this INCREASE sales of the phone hardware, as well as the accessory if offered BOTH at the same point of sale??!! This is the BIG marketing-management question!! If we see Nokia's sales continue to grow & market share, along with Samsungs, and hardware sales of the A2 platform as a WHOLE pale by comparison then this marketing manager should be given the 13" BOOT in the ass out the door! Because going to school to get a job is just HALF the battle, working & continuing to learn the facists & changing scale & landscape of your job is actually PART of your job & your success!

We'll see what happens but I'd LOVE to have this accessory.

I'd love to have this accessory too, but let's not get carried away. It's still just speculation, has not been announced and therefore talk of release dates is premature if not plain daft.

Amidst all your jargon (you lost me on the first sentence ) I think you missed the point. 's marketing manager said that free wifi spots will become obselete as high speed mobile broadband becomes more widespread over the next few years. It appears that HSDPA's next step after the present 3.6Mbps will be 14.4Mbps and then 42Mbps after that. My wifi router has a maximum of 54Mbps but AFAIK no ordinary users here in NZ are getting 14.4Mbps or faster sent down thier landline connection so it's clear that the mobile network infrastructure will soon overtake that of the landline, making wifi obselete as the guy said. IMO he can keep his job.

Also, how exactly will mobile network providers leverage thier services off wifi? Clearly they make thier money off 3G services and faster speeds mean better take up of these services. Don't you remember the MASSIVE amounts the Network providers spent to buy access to mobile frequencies in the early '00s. Don't you remember Vodafone posting a 40 billion pound loss about 5 years ago as they wrote off those costs? This is where they recover that investment - high speed 3G not wifi.

Very smart move from SE if this device hits the market .

It enables almost all new SE phones with wifi, and lowering the need of changing your phone just because of the wifi .

Good idea, but they could make it a LOT smaller i mean, like its not visible, like a small thing

this reminds me of the old days, when you had to plug a camera on your phone, lol
