Nope dont go in for Eten and Lgs either, they have very rudimentary graphic drivers(LG) while the Eten have none.
. . .

So that makes the E-Ten's equal to HTC Sorry for mentioning them...

The LG KS20 on the other hand should have at least acceptable drivers. The guys over at XDA-Dev were trying to port these to the Kaiser (TyTN II) which like E-Ten doesn't have any drivers at all.

The LG drivers suck. Porting was a failure. They're were a hotch-potch job by LG, even videos dont play right with them, and they dont implement the QTV drivers for video playback.

The only option for gaming is either the Flame or the imate 6150/8150. With the host function it makes them ideal as you can store any amount of games you want on pen drivers and play them.

Sounds to me like S60 will be the best for you: N81, N95-8GB, N96 have got what you want: The great Symbian S60 with; Ngage Gaming with brilliant graphics, powerful CPUs, N95-8GB AND N96 have huge screens, loads of apps, the best combination of Multimedia capabilities in mobile phones etc. . .
Theres no best mobile OS.

Well not the N96, it does'nt have a 3D hardware accelerator, it uses some new processor, cant remember which one. Nokia have done this so it does'nt effec the sales of the N95 8GB, I think Dogmann will be able to elaborate more on this topic. Enev without the 3D hardware, NGage platform works on it as Ngage is totally software dependant and software acceleration being sufficent to play the NGage games. This is'nt a good idea in the long run imo.

The only LG I tried was a Shine, (or is it Shi*e) and it was a complete nightmare, it made samsung seem intuitive, I've steered clear of LG's ever since, don't know what the very latest ones are like.

@aksd,
Thanks. I was actually considering the KS20. Now I will have to continue looking.
. . .
So, there seem to be no handset using the Qualcomm MSM7x00 chipsets with good drivers for accelerated multimedia. Anyone care to bet whether or not the X1 will break this trend?

@Shebee

As askd has pointed out the best processor with graphics abilities for playing games currently appears to still be the OMAP 2420 found in some of the Flagship Nokia devcies. Now whilst Symbian in not as open as WM for modding it can run emulators and Rom's for ton's of games. This is not something i am up on as don't play games on my devcies so can't offer much advice other than i know such emulators and many Roms are available.

Having thought about it with your budget you could even get a E90 if you don't find the size a problem as this has 4 inch 800x352 16 million colour screen.

@Shebee

I'd go for the Imates if I were you. For me modding is a big thing. I get bored of my phones if they're not moddable. Got bored of an N73 in a week and played with a borrowed N95 for a few days. Currently I'm using a HTC TyTn2, love it do death, using it for 4 months, one of the lngest I've owned a phone since the W800, I hardly get bored of it, everyday theres a new UI to test, new app to run, new mod to do, or if there is'nt you can play around with the registry. So modding with features being of the utmost importace for me I;d say the iMate 6150/8150. Its got modding + gaming. If not the 6150/8150 and modding is not important I suggest the N82/95 8BG. No disrespect to Dogmann but I dont think you'd be happy with an E90, its not a 16yr olds phone .

But whichever of the lot you choose, you're not going wrong wheather its the 6150/8150 on this side of the fence or the N95 8GB/82/E90 on theother side. Theyre all fantastic tiny computers with close to unlimited possibilites in their respective areas.

When I was using a WM phone I just had the feeling I am using another computer at the end of the day. Using a Symbian UIQ phone is exiting to me and I like all the custom stuff you can do. So for me it burned down what I like to use as long as it can do all the stuff I need.

Nice info you giving me there askd (i think your name was)
How long do you think does the imate stay up to date?
As a phone.
Like do I need a new phone in 1 year already.
Wouldnt like to waste 600€ for 1 year.

I'm still thinking what to get as a present, I have this problm every year.
PDA, or a e-guitar.
I'm pretty sure ill get bored of a guitar fast, i got 1 electric and 2 acoustic ones already.
PDA interests me more too.
But I don't know if its worth it, i mean yes ofcourse its nice to have and play with.
But do I actually even need wlan?
Do I need a VGA touchscreen?
Do I need WM6?

Not really.
But at least till now anything else havnt come to my mind.
If you have any suggestions please share

Let see, I'll break it down for you, the imate Vs Nokia N95/82 specs that is:

1. The Processor:
THe N95 runs at 350Mhz using ARM11(thats the latest), the iMate runs at 520 it can be overclocked to 620 Mhz ARM 9.
Although the N95 processor is slower, its a better processor, more advanced, would'nt really get outdated for another two years. The competition still has'nt come this close.
THe iMate intel/marvel processor is already a few years old, the latest version the the intel processor is being updated for the coming year phones. But its still not out of date as such since its mated to the Nvidia 5500 graphics processor. It should really get out dated for the next year to two years.

2. The camera:
THe N95 trumps the iMate. I'm an amateur photographer so basically I dont count on the cam much, according to me mobile cams should stick withtin the 2Mpx range as the sensors are extremely small and more mixels results in intereference and loss in detail. So the 2Mpx on the iMate is more than sufficent since its got AF.

3. Misc:
THe iMate trumps the N95 here only for the fact that TV output is at a higher resolution and the USB host function as well as WiFi b/g/e/i which is totally future proof on the iMate. Advantage of higher resolution TV output is better gaming video [layback etc on your telly. The N95 has GPS which the iMate does'nt only negative, but you can always use an external reciever.

4. OS:
The OS on the N95 is going to be obsolete as in new version release end of the year with FP2 of the S60 platform. Not a big issue though but Nokia might just update OS versions.
The iMate OS, can be upraded upto the next version of WM thats 6.1, cant be upgraded to 7.0 which is due 2009 as that requires new hardware, but the OS is so flexible that you can keep upgrading it with new UIs etc. and keep it up to date for another year to two in the least.

Now to your other question:

I love phones, at the moment I'm jobless, have been for the last few months and will be for the next few months, all I pass my time with is fooling around with my phone LOL , so it keeps me entertained. So if its going to keep you entertained, yes it will provided you have the time and patience, this is with regard to an iMate, with regard to the N95 its a bit more boring for the inquisitive modder a lot more actually, but for the end user its perfect as an all rounder. With the iMate you spend hours getting it to work how you want completely personalised form your today screen to your touch gestures. N95 does what it does brilliantly, thats about it, cant extract more from it like the iMate.

Regarding a guitar Vs phone, I;d go for a phone, but my bros into the electric and hed go for the guitar, thats your decision.

Do you need it?
Of course you dont, nor do I or most other people using high end phones, we're here cause were all tech geeks. Its upto you, remeber lifes too short, you like it go for it. If you're not sure, forget it, tell your parents you want a rain check on the gift, when something nice comes out buy that.

I'm just not so sure, I'm afraid that i get the imate, play around for a week, and then its just another weight in the bottom of my pocket.
But lets take a PC for example.
I spend most of the time home, learning and playing pc, but I' trying hard to get my ass off the pc...
When I'm home, I dont hink i'd use a PDA so much, why browse the internet with a VGA screen when you can go and surf and play games on a 19" widescreen?
Another thing ofc would be to upgrade my pc, but I think i'm fine with my current one too....
amd athlon x2 2.6 ghz and 2gigs of memory, geforce 7950GT, thats fine for me, I dont have any games that require more really.
