the fastport's ok for plugging your phone to a pc or charging it. but it definitely sucks as a headset connector. guaranteed to wear out in a few months' time, even if you're careful with it.
i still use a wired headset once in a while but only when i'm at home and in bed. saves batteries that way.

PhR34k,
I could do that, but I wouldn't get any fun out of it, now would I? It is obvious to me that you simply pull out the headset and alike when you're done. If you didn't, then you wouldn't be complaining about it here. Complaining about something you're doing wrong isn't exactly the smartest thing, you know.

Mizzle please read the above quote and stop trying to justify the silly fast port. It makes little sense if any.
Put it up against any on a Nokia and you would lose.

I think I'm very lucky

My fast port is still working after four years. But I have not been using it very much with a handsfree.

Problems with the fastport are normally experienced by those who use their phone as their primary music player(me included). Hopefully a 3.5mm audio input jack would be integrated into future
phones, particularly walkman phones.

I can't do anything else than agree with you. The fastport connector is not really good. Even the older Ericsson plugs were better, when it was possible to connect the earplug and the charger separately, since they only occupied half of the socket each. An on newer
models, it gets even worse, when the connector is located at the side of the phone. This design makes it very difficult to put the phone with the connector still in place in a pocket, not to mention the car holder for older fastport models that is totally incompatible for these phones. And when we are at it, why are some fastport connectors designed in a way that it is impossible to connect to the back connector of the cst-75 charger while some, like the earplugs hpm-70, are possible to connect? For example, the FM radio transmitter mmr-70 or the external speakers mps-70 cannot be connected through the charger, which is especially irritating since these accessories consume some extra power.
Let's hope for the new micro USB plug that is to become a standard, or, meanwhile, that a decent 3.5 mm jack becomes available on coming models.

The fastport doesn't "break".
I've used the fast port since K750 and the only problem I've had with it is the contacts on the phone get dirty easily because they are so exposed.
The solution is simple, clean them regularly with isopropyl alcohol or some other contact cleaner solution, and the connection stays good as gold. Literally - it's gold plated
I've used the same HPM-70 across two phones for nearly 3 years. I use it everyday, on the train, riding bike and walking. I use it with a case, but you have make sure the case isn't jammed between the phone and the fasport plug when you plug it in. Or just cut the hole bigger so it fits properly. The case problem with fastport is the design of the case not SE's fault.
In my car I use an mmc-60 plugged into my generic fm transmitter, with the SE fast port car charger (which has pass through, as do all new AC chargers), so you certainly
can charge and listen to music at the same time.
So you reckon it's ugly?
Well to each their own but personally I think you are over reacting a little, or rather too pre-occupied with your appearance if it's size embarrases you.
When it's on the side I agree it's a stupid place, but not all new SE phjones have it on the side. I think SE are dropping this convention (hopefully) as G900, W960 and other new phones all seem to have it on the bottom again. Actually notice the N95 has the 3.5mm on the side, this is even more stupid since lateral flexing of 3.5mm sockets causes them to fail very quickly. N95 is a phone I would not be putting on my pocket with headset plugged in - it will damage the socket. Fastport on the side however, may pull the plug out, but won't damage the plug and definitely won't damage the fastport contacts on the phone.
The fastport is actually a very damage resistant connector, but you have to keep it clean if you want good performance. Simple as that.
You have the solutions to your problems, but you have been over-reacting to the problems and getting frustrated and missing the actual solution.
Relax a little, keep your fastport clean, and you should have a lot less problems.

Geez, everyone here thinks they are SE guru's. I am not doing anything wrong i have read the manual and they explain how to pull it out! If you still insist that im doing wrong take it with sony ericsson and tell them to rewrite their manual!
And my port doesnt get dirty cause i have the like 3 unused handsfrees that i have got with diffrent SE phone and i dont use them cus they arent "in ear", anyhow when i connect them it works fine but as soon as i connect the "old" handsfree i cant use it to talk (people cant hear me), sometimes i cant even hear music til i pull it in and out like 10 times, other times it makes the phone to reboot. That are some of the bugs! And it has nothing todo with it being dirty. The fastport is a bad idea. If you have a brand new SE and connect the handsfree to it, if you feel on the connected hf on the phones fastport it feels firm but after a couple of days in the pocket you can feel that it isnt as firm anymore. It's obvious that it bends back and forword in the pocket and the connector on the handsfree is made in plastic its too fragile and if you cant understand that after some "real" usage it will brake then you dont know what your talking about! I dont have the phone on the side fixed on the belt like oldie, it looks rediculous i have it in my front pocket! The fastport is crap just admit it you cant compare it to a 3.5mm!
