Sorry guys, I'm, just the messenger and thank you for understanding that I am not the man that decides how much to charge for an SMS or MMS. First off, SMS is sent off the GSM side of the device, not the GPRS side, which is why there are seperate charges for data and SMS. MMS should travel on the GPRS side and would count as total data, not a per message charge. Network lock wise, ATTWS decided as a company (not the customer service reps) to not release the NCK codes on phones to regroup the losses incurred with purchasing the device and offering it at a discounted price. I agree that it sucks that the latest T68i (deemed the T68is on this forum) has the save picture feature disabled. International SMS wise, intheory you could do it now so long as you don't use the + code but rather use the 011 string, but there is not guarantee that it will make it there as it does leave the ATTWS network (we can only GUARANTEE when it terminates on the ATTWS network) Look for some changes (hopefully better) by mid-to-late February, data price drops, better SMS, etc...

I can believe that AT&T would disable their phones from getting free content from the web. As with any company. they're trying to make more money. I don't however, agree with it. I am lucky enough to not have too many problems with AT&T. I work for a dealer so I get a discounted plan. I do have a problem with the billing. I am supposed to get unlimited SMS's, but they charge me for them, and getting it taken care of is quite a problem. I really hope that all the crap that's going on with them (AT&T) gets sorted out soon. It's getting hard to recommend them over the other companies I sell (T-mobile, and Nextel).

Not For long. AT&T and Cingular will put T-Mobile back in place. It's just a matter of time!

i'm sorry. i had cingular service when i bought my t68i. i left cingular the next day. it had no gprs signal EVER! i ALWAYS had at most one bar of reception. and most of all, their customer service people are MEAN! cingular sucks! and have you seen how desperate they are getting? they're giving 6000 anytime minutes for only $50! what's the point of paying $50 if you can't ever get any reception anyways?! cingular will be out of the cell phone business soon... toooo bad

Someone here mentioned the money that ATT is losing by selling their phones at a discount. Ok let's do a quick math...

New phone: 200 dollars, discounted from 300
service plan: 50 dollars a month x 12 = 600 dollars
That's 800 dollars...
If we take in account that ATT is discounting their phones they still made 800 off of you. Some may say that they could have made 900. True... but what service provider will buy 50.000 units from Nokia at the regular 300 dollar simfree expansys price? NOONE! Ever heard of volume discount? If the price was actually 300, Expansys would sell it for 400 or even 500 to make their profit.
So dont give us the discounted phone price. ATT and all the other wireless carries are buying these phones at a deep discount. They still make money on them... they just dont tell us

That's my 2 cents...

P.S. For the record... I love T-Mobile... just this one time they didn't give me the unlock code for my second gd87 that I am about to buy, telling me that the phone had to be purchased in US or Canada. Note to T-Mobile customers that want to bring locked phones from europe... tell T-Mobile you got the phone in America off of some guy in the street

I guess you are trying to say that the GSM infrastructure just appeared out of thin air. WTF. Dont know where you get you statistics. Phones do cost money to maufacture, I doubt it costs $7 to make a T68i, and infrastructure costs money to build as well. You need to get your facts straight before you shoot off at the mouth.

He never said phones cost $7 to make. You should get YOUR facts straight, or at least read what the other person said. Infrastructure costs are known as "sunk costs". You can't attribute them directly to the customer, they are the cost of doing business (as a wireless carrier).

Even with subsidies, if a carrier gets you to sign a 1 year contract at $100/mo there is $1200. With a loss of $0-$200 per phone, thats still a lot of money they're making. Devis is totally right about the volume discounts carriers get on their phones, and the fact that selling you a discounted phone locks you into a contract in which they do make money off of you. Now knowone is gonna be mad at a company for making money, if going into business weren't profitable they wouldn't do it. I think (and I don't know) the point was that they do make money, they do get large discounts and they do under represent what their actual costs are (for the handsets).

When carrier employees are sitting on this site one day screaming that the cost of an unlocked phone is $600 yet the very same day others are able to find the same unlocked phone for $325 (and the company selling said phone is marking it up) it makes people kinda skeptical about the honesty of carrier costs, specially since they buy in much larger bulk than a company selling unlocked phones on the web.

Just my $0.02
