With a new C702 you get a 3 month free trial of the Wayfinder application and you have to pay your network operator data charges for assisted GPS and map download.

I think one of the issues is that most apps (including wayfinder) do NOT come or work with preinstalled maps. They download the map and that's what you pay for. I've heard rumours of trekbuddy functioning with preinstalled maps, which should take away that charge. I have not had a chance to test any of this.

I suspect, but I might be wrong, that switching agps off would cancel out any network fees. Dunno if there is any point though, is there a proper gps installed so that (in time) it might connect to a satellite? Or is it fully dependent on the cellular networks?

I had a reply from Wayfinder, they suggested downloading the latest version of Wayfinder and using the 5 day trial.

I had to remove the battery again this morning, this time though it was during looking at a photo tag. Maybe these problems are to do with the aGPS as google maps was trying to get a gps lock and hung up when I tried to exit the application.

So bottmoline is that
- there is no "one off" fee use of wayfinder (which comes preinstalled)
-but disableing AssistedGPS u can use an just GPS with a freeware app (like trekbuddy) that works with preinstalled maps and with no fees, but gets a slower fix.

If that is so..you get to have a GPS like Nokia's 6110 Navigator for example.?!

Hi Strizlow800,
actually the app keeps on running. it is just the light auto-dimming that is not ideal when driving

Doh...I should have read a bit better trekbuddy instructions...pressing the "3" for a couple of seconds toggles the backlight to/from "always on". Now i just need a power adapter for the car cigarette lighter...

I am trying to get the built-in GPS log (Location Services - Log) out of my C702 but I haven't found out how to do it (if at all possible).

Anybody has an idea if it can be done?

I know, I know, I should use some other application for this purpose and that's what I do now but still I would like to get those old GPS data into my PC somehow.

Thanks for any idea...

I've tested Trekbuddy on my C702 and it works with preinstalled maps, but you'll need to set it up and it's a bit confusing at first.

gtr83: Yes, I use TrekBuddy now as well but I would like to get the "internal" GPS log with data from the time before I started using TB.
