Yeah, they have closed the branch in Germany only to reopen it in Romania
And yes,you are just about right about the other points. Buddy, after nokia released the 2nd quarter data, their shares went up by around 10% in one bump ! That says a lot ,doesn't it ?
Se need to act immediately to STOP the slide ! They should dismiss even more workers (yes, the unions will scream at them, but what are the alternatives). And lastly, the beauty about a forum like this is - anyone can writte his opinion and no one know on the other side if the poster is a 15year old kid, a computer nerd, a brand name fanatic or the president of United States

In the end they all learn something. I guess, that's why I love Esato.

hasn´t impressed me since K750/W800. Its all been minor ´changes´, ´upgrades´, buggy outdated high-end phones and several versions of the same phone ever since. So to solve the problem now

is going to drop money from R&D? WTF?????

´s problem IS R&D. They just haven´t invested enough or as effectively as the competition and realized now that they are behind. They have to do something about it. Concentrate efforts and money on key projects, release something innovative not only to get back high-end marketshare but also to regain the image of ´advanced´ ´high tech´ company. A tech company that stops in time is a tech company heading to death. We´ve all been kinda disappointed with

for a long time now and if they drop R&D is only gonna get worse...

might end but becoming a mid-end phone company with nothing really special and with a bunch of cheap low-end phones on the portfolio just cause they sell a lot and are easy to make and the company needs the cash. What kind of public image is that?? Isn´t this supposed to be sony? and ericsson?
It´s really sad to see the company that got me interested in mobile phones heading down this way... But well, that´s life. (and just a cell company lol)

I believe SE has just passed their first hurdle- realizing there's actually competition.

Judging from the SE's attitude to its loyal customers in the past couple of years it is heading to 20th position in the league of mobile phone manufacturers within another couple of years. Worst may come - there will be no more SE after 10 years - could be replaced by XSE.
For any company which needs to compete with high-tech products, R&D is the most important sector. Reducing R&D cost means same phone with different covers and colors for several years if the company survives that long.
I am waiting for the SEX1 but it might be renamed XSEX1...

You're giving them ten years? At this rate and if drastic measures aren't taken they'd be lucky to be around in 3.

Sorry, I am biased to SE and hope its situation will improve.

I actually understand. I've been with them for 10 full years, with Ericsson before and subsequently SE, until this year when I went elsewhere. I still use my P910i though.
I want them to get back to what they used to be myself, when I moved from my Ericsson R320s to the SE T610i a lot of my former colleagues changed their Nokias to SEs, then I got me the K700i which was special after the T610i. Got me the simple F500i later before getting myself the best SE phone I ever had and still have- the mighty P910i. So, as you can see I have a history with this once magnificent company.
Even though I'm using another brand for my main line I find it rather bland, completely unexciting, I actually miss SE's excellent UI and better features. Of course the P910i fills the gap for the time being even though things have moved on since then.
However, if we continue treating them with kid gloves they will never learn and will trample all over us as they've been doing. I hope and pray that they've received the message loud and clear that we won't accept sub-standard and mediocre products after giving us the best.

I was under the impression that SE suffered a 97% net profit short fall after their Q2 earnings announcement? At least that's what this article form Engadget would have me believe...

They are even laying ppl off now. See here:

Looks like the bad customer service and P990 debacle is finally catching up with them.

whoever think cutting 2000 mean cut back on rnD is just too straight forward
every company is not having 99% RnD personnel
it is just good for them to cut loose some admin work if they have too much
many company now outsource customer support and admin...some even HR with the manager only being the employee....all others as contractor etc to get a good cost.
so let see what they have planned. Remember SE struggle for two year after it was first form....definitely they forgotten the past pain...now this is a wake up call but if full year they go back to the red...it mean they haven't learnt anything from the day they need to transform from Sony and Ericsson as two company into one.
