If you not using the modem everyday with a 1GB data plan and not getting it serviced in Christchurch, I doubt you'll strike any problems with the K630. I would still recommend it outside those circumstances. Its camera an headphones are superior to my iPhone no doubt. As an underdog it holds lots of surprises.

Well, I'd probably be better off waiting for the price of the W902 to fall and getting that instead of the K630 anyway. I hope things get sorted out with your V640.
