Symbian is cr@p. its slower (yes it really is, compared to a full working java phone), its unlogic and its ugly

It is easy... just compare Java games with N-gage games and you will see what i'm talking about...

But I thought N-gage was a commercial failure because no-one bought them? Now are releasing the Java-based F-series we'll see now if the timing is right for a gaming handset - IMO it's more about market timing than platform.

@M-O

Excellent post.
You summed up the situation very well. It really is Apples and Oranges comparing feature phones and Nokia's S60-based N-series.

The cellphone market is highly volatile and a well designed model (MotoRazr V3) or well featured model (N95/N82) or a brash newcomer (iPhone) can create a market for itself out of thin air.
I like 's strategy of fully featured Java-based phones, let's hope they get the mix of features right. BROD and camera issues aside, if K850i, C-series, F-series, Z770i/Z780i, G502 and all 3G phones had Wifi and Autofocus, would there be any complaints about SE and any "I'm leaving SE threads"? I think not.

Yes there still would be threads. Open you mind stop narrowing your perception to minor expedients. I am pretty sure there are not many or any threads based on im leaving because the lack of wi-fi or auto-focus. People repeatedly bring the discussion up in threads because of problems and design flaws with the phones, some of them leaving users with no other choice but to resort to emptying their wallets trying to get it fixed or purchasing a brand new phone. The way I see it is you shouldn't have to make such actions on something you just purchased unless it is clearly adverties like on the front of the box.

Personally carkitter I would suggest you stay away from these topics until you fully understand what causes people to mention or resort to such actions.

What got me to look away from SE phones was the dreaded "EPROM" error on my K790i. I never even considered Nokia phones until it happened to me twice. I started seeing all the posts on the SE support forums about this error, and how it can recur. Symbian s60 was a revelation. I especially like the part about using the phone in off-line mode so my contacts are still available on one phone if I'm trying another. SE was king for me before that. Having to pay to re-flash the phone seemed absurd, but that was what was required. So I looked at Nokia.

What has kept me from getting another SE phone is lack of 3G support for the U.S. I really want/need a smart phone, and until the XPERIA comes out there's nothing for me with NAM UMTS.

Nokia was a breath of fresh air for me. Although the E90 was not a NAM phone it was still an awesome device with monster capabilities. The N95 is still a killer multimedia device and my E71-2 is smokin'!

eeehhhh. Symbian = games ?????

apparently you don't know how huge is mobile games market. we are talking about billions of dolars and millions of users. even if 90% of all applications for mobile are games this doesn't change overall situation (a lot of moneys on ground for developers)

Java based phones works really good with games..(dont understand your point here).

in this point I agree (Java is working well in SE phones). there is no "Java based phones" by SE

Symbian is cr@p. its slower (yes it really is, compared to a full working java phone), its unlogic and its ugly

unlogic and ugly? arguments like from 2 years old boy. what is unlogic in Symbian? and now my favourite: slower...

bloody hell Plank! why are you talking about things if your knowledge is null? did you ever played in game for Symbian? I was programmer and tester of J2ME games and applications and co-worker in Symbian games projects. the first and the last fact: J2ME ends where Symbian begins in every aspect. you wan't to know my feelings?

Java Platform on the left, Symbian on the right

you wrote "slower" - unfortunately (for you) speed of code execution in Symbian is much (!) faster than in Java Platform and this is only one from many Symbian over J2ME advantage

compared to a full working java phone

you never learn, SE phones aren't "full working java phone"! Java Platform is not Java OS!

The only thing unlogical and ugly is your posts here. Seriously grow up, you have a couple of daughters and yet you act like an immature brat.

i dont know what he ment when he said 'slow' but the Symbian phones are really slow in every aspect

i have a K800 and my roommate has a N73. i sometimes use his phone, and it really annoys me. it takes about 20 secs to enter the phonebook (loading of names and numbers), when sending a message it again takes 20-30 secs to go back to the home screen. when opening the camera lens cover it takes about 30 secs to open the cam application, and the most annoying thing - saving photos takes about 30-40 secs. also surfing trough the gallery isnt as smooth as in SE phones.

on the oder side there are loads of apps and games for Symbian (which is IMO the main advantage of this OS)
