when you contact reality, you will find it is well behind the better ones from other brands. that fact remains.

if you want to keep on believing such awards, then that's your own problems

it's better than other walkmans, but that's not saying much at all.

That's not true..

Did try out the headphone which comes with W980 on W910, there still different between sound quality. When use it at W980 is sounds more clear.. So there is nothing to do what kind of headphones it comes with..

If you want better sound quality then get better headphones, that comes with W980 is ok..

The second award was of TESTfactory for best audio experience.

Strictly speaking, it wasn't the W902 that got TESTfactory's award. It was the W980. SE just says that the W902 "features the same superior sound quality". Has there been any further testing on the W902?

Quoted from Beyond music with Sony Ericsson’s W902 & W595 Walkman™ phones, SE's press release from 22 July:

The W902 delivers music as it was meant to be heard through Sony Ericsson’s revolutionary clear audio experience. With crystal clear sound quality and a dramatically richer bass, together with Sony Ericsson premium headphones, HPM-77 included in-box, your favourite tracks will sound better than ever. The W902 features the same superior sound quality as the W980, about to launch shortly, which was rated ”best audio experience” this month, in a trial conducted in Germany by TESTfactory**.

So, as far as I can count, the W902 got zero awards for sound quality, and one award for "best music phone"...

Edit: Quoted the wrong post...

lol hes probly like "OMG! Sony Ericssons walkman is just a gimick, it doesn't mean anything, Nokia's Xpress Music is in no way a rip off of walkman and it is not a marketing gimmick. The Xpress music features higher quality sound than Sony's NWZ series"

Firstly, check your spellings and grammar, you're a disgrace to the English language. Secondly, i have used more SE and nokia phones than you can count up to. Whether you want to believe it or not, i wont lose sleep over it, but the undisputed fact of the matter is that SE is at the bottom of the barrel in terms of sound quality. Moto, samsung and nokia both not only pass but slaughter SE in that regard. I suggest you clean up your ear for once, and have a listen to N81 or the latest Moto ROKR phones.

I can bet my bottom dollar neither you, nor nightblade have used either of the phones i mentioned. If some worthless awards does it for you, well that just about sums it up.

P.S SE is just BSing them selves if they think 'clear audio' will help matters.

When the W910 won Mobile of the Year i lost ALL faith in those awards.
By far the Samsung i450, Motorola E8 and V8 and NOKIA N81 AND N91 have far better audio quality than SEs. ive heard: W800, W900, W850, W880, W910, W960, K850, and recently a W760 in store none of them were great, just average.
But if you realy want an SE then i guess get a W980 or W902 ,good luck with them.
Heres a nice thread at M-R about soundquality in phones: http://forum2.mobile-review.com/showthread.php?t=58108&page=6 ,ive linked you to replies that are from mid 2007 to now, you may page back to check the earlier 2006-07 replies.
And heres a brilliant review done by Eldar and some others putting a NOKIA Music Flagship against a SE Music Flagship: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/n81-vs-w960-en.shtml and another: http://smape.com/en/reviews/s[....]n/Sony_Ericsson_W910i-rev.html where they compare it to a competitor in its own review. All made for a great read.

I sugest all to read this from mobile-review.com... please go to this link to see the full article about the sound quality tests (http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-w980i-en.shtml):

" Now let’s dispel a handful of myths about the Sony Ericsson W980i’s audio quality. This phone features no dedicated DSP, so all sound in this phone is processed by its CPU. It’s true that you can get pretty decent sound quality even without a dedicated DSP onboard – in fact, it’s not a cure-all in this sense. But only a DSP can allow you to even out all frequencies and parts of the audio spectrum.

While the W980 was a decent performer in our RMAA-powered frequency response tests, being on a par with most dedicated music players, such as the iPod Nano, all members of our focus group noticed a significant amount of noise along with certain distortions of voices in the W980’s audio signal Basically, the W980’s Clear Stereo, along with Clear Bass, is a mere equalizer that enhances the phone’s sound in a way, but doesn’t really make it better or more natural. The bad news is that there is no way to disable these sound procession algorithms here. And that’s where the rub is – to ensure unbiased and fair test results in RMAA, it’s essential to disable the Stereo Widening option, all equalizers and applications that process the phone’s sound. Unfortunately, this is impossible to do in Sony Ericsson’s phones – some like it this way, some don’t, but the truth is, these widgets don’t make the phones sound more natural.

.... On balance, the W980 offers pretty decent volume and focus on pop music. At the same time, it can’t compete with the A803 or Nokia’s music-minded solution with a bundled DSP. While all other manufacturers had to play it safe, without knowing which kind of music their consumers would go for, Sony Ericsson concluded that most of their users will prefer pop music and tailored the W980’s sound to this style. It would have been even better if only they packed all these enhancements into one equalizer and made it optional. " ......................

He quoted mobile-review.

Sure, the same audio optimization technologies found in Sony's Walkmans he qualifies as crap. Riight.
