Yes, certainly. What is more important than the icon, however, is to assign a suitable viewer to the data type.

Well, the default viewer is fine - i just like the beautiful interface of the Walkman3 player.

LCG Jukebox is a bit clunky and not as smooth looking but has enormous functionality and works well - and also works as a 'viewer' so that's not really a problem to me...

If we could get the 'Walkman look' on the LCG player that would be perfect for me

What FileAssociate does not seem to do which would be useful is like for internet links (obviously not available in file manager programmes ) to be able to change the default setting from Opera 8.65 to 9.5 Beta

- that does not work on my P1 - and by the looks of it that was not the intent of the programme... but it would be useful if it could be added

LCG Jukebox ... also works as a 'viewer'
Are you sure that you can have LCG Jukebox to immediately play a file when clicking on the file in the built-in File manager (or SMP)? That differs from our experiences.

This is not completely clear. Please explain in detail what exactly you want to achieve and how to test for it.

OK... you're probably right... the first time I re-tried I got a crash/error message, the next 3 times I tried different songs LCG jukebox opened with no information showing, I hit the play arrow and the correct song started playing each time??? - Don't know what that means - I'm sure you will though...

OK - I changed Web from default to Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta - the 9.5 icon shows correctly in File Associate.
I had an email containing a web link that I clicked on - option 1) open in Browser, 2) Add to bookmark list. I would like to be able to go direct to Opera Mobile 9.5 but the default browser was opened as expected.

Regarding LCG Jukebox, I'm afraid it is not programmed to be a true viewer. File Associate could be so much more useful in practice if we had more viewer programs to choose from!

Regarding the Web/Opera change you described, here is the general scenario. In File Associate you select a data type, and change its assigned viewer from Program A to Program B. Then you go to Program X (typically a file manager), open an item that represents that data type, and expect that Program B comes up displaying the item. What if Program A comes up instead?

- Reason 1: You changed the wrong data type, that is the item you open belongs to another data type.
- Reason 2: Program X does not care about the system-wide associations, instead it opens items independently.

I think in your case both reasons seem to occur. If you changed "Web" in FA's Basic/Common types list, then you actually changed the text/html type, which stands for .htm and .html files. A better candidate is the X-Epoc-Url/http type (to see that you need to switch to Advanced mode and stop displaying the Common types only). However, when you change the latter association and click on a web link in an Email, still the default browser comes up, and not what you associated. Which seems to mean that Program X (that displays the Email) behaves like described above in Reason 2.

I hope this clarifies the situation. File Associate can change any association to whatever you want, but it can't help if you select the wrong data type, or if you assign a non-viewer, or if you start from a program that does not utilize the existing associations.

Anyone having the "false expire" issue (mentioned earlier in this thread) is welcome to drop an Email to the CPS support address and receive a beta copy of FA 1.10 (in which the problem is supposedly fixed).

Can anyone tell me where can I download a non-demo version of this software?

You can download only non-demo version. It is called a trial, because it is fully functional, unlike a demo. It asks for registration at two weeks after installation, which is hopefully plenty of time to decide if you need it. Registration stops the program asking for it and costs about the price of a dinner. All product updates within the same major version are free afterward.

Before you ask, there is no non-trial version. You can convert a trial copy to a registered copy instead.

File Associate 1.10 has been released. The new version fixes the "false expire" issue experienced on some phones. The fault was in the reboot option, prompted when the program is run for the first time. That was not programmed carefully enough (entirely my fault). As a compensation for the insult, the new version contains the following new features:

- Facility to jump in the association list by keypresses (alphabetical search).
- Find and Find next commands in Generic viewer to search in text and binary files.

Trial/upgrade are free!
