Having the same issue on another C702, really awkward. It can't be hardware because GPS works fine in other apps. I've tried several different sim cards, so it also not that, tried a few different camera modes too. Seems the coordinates that should ne written in the EXIF field go somewhere else as photostudio shows a lot of unknown fields and weird marker fields in the jpg files that are not there on properly geotagged jpg files from C702's. I really hope SE is investigating this and not just keeping on a string. Today I took a lot of photo's in London and none of them had a GPS EXIF entry, yet GPS was working fine and fixes were fast. Is my luck so bad? I really wish I did something wrong, but apart from enabling AGPS and setting the photo app to add location I can't do much (wrong)

That sucks man, what region do you need? It seems R3EA037 is out for several regions, Central Europe, Western Europe among those.

Mine is good apart from the bloody geotagging

It shows the right coordinates in the log it just doesnt add them to the jpg properly.

Couldn't get my hands on R3EA037 then it seems. Well geotagging is a pretty new feature for SE, their crackpot engineers prolly haven't got the time to really debug it

What do you mean tranced?

The funny thing, yesterday I took a lot of pictures in London and the GPS log was full, when comparing the GPS coordinate times with pictures, they matched up just fine. Just for some reason they aren't written in to the jpg properly, or not at all.

I'm so fed up with SE, they didn't even read or review my documentation and just gave me a default reply after 2 weeks of waiting. I told them and showed them the GPS icons shows fine, and the reception is fine, and even the GPS log shows entries with the same dates and times the pictures are taken. They're just not added correctly to the jpg's. I have seen this happen on 2 C702's now, my own and one I bought for a friend of mine. It's clearly something else. If SE doesnt sort this out or offer a replacement this was the last phone I've bought from them. FFS.

This is what they wrote to me:

Thank you for your query regarding the Sony Ericsson C702.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in answering your enquiry whilst we have investigated this issue.

We have not experienced any issues regarding the Sony Ericsson C702 when using the geotagging features.

Therefore, we believe this issue may be due to the handset's not connecting to the GPS Satellites or network operators A-GPS correctly at the time the picture is taken.

We would recommend ensuring that the Add Position option is selected in Camera Settings and that the GPS icon found in the camera viewfinder is connected i.e. the satellite icon is green and a small red triangle.

If this is not displayed at the time of taking the picture geotagg information will not be assigned to the picture.

For your information we have tested the C702 using software version R3EA036 Generic and Picasa 3/Google Earth to view picture properties and image.

Every picture taken when connected to the GPS satellites displays the information in it's properties.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again for further help and support.

My old C702 had the same issues when i first brought it the geotagging didn't work at all , then slowly with newer firmware versions it improved but within about the whole 8months i owned i never successfully geotagged a photo, i think it's strange se have the only 1 C702 in the world that geotags photos properly.
