1. Were you trying to find a good use for the word FAIL? FAIL.
2. Hand on heart, I have an A-level in photography dontcha know. This qualifies me to say that 99% of cameraphones are bloody awful.
3. Why are we posting in numbered lists now?

Photography can never be measured by certificates. IMO, photos are meant to be shared, messages in them conveyed, emotions within expressed. And for non-professional photographers (who are the target audience of cameraphones) sharing their moments with their friends and family, some of the newer cameraphones definitely suffice.

we are talking about the iphone and nokia 5800 so imaging/photography isnt even worth talking about.
Try the iphone. You will never know until you get it. And you said your not happy with the 5800 so dont bother with it!

That's probably true enough, but in reply to Ares I figured it was worth mentioning that an exam board didn't agree I "suck at taking photos, with any camera" - pardon me for pointing that out!

But for most of those purposes the iPhone suffices, that's the point. There's nothing wrong with snaps, sharing the moment, capturing the spirit of something off the hoof, but the iPhone's perfectly capable of doing that. It's only when you get hung up on the technical quality of an image that you start dismissing the iPhone in favour of the more complex cameras on "dedicated" phones, but in reality if you're striving for
any level of technical quality then you still, must, carry a decent camera with you - because the optics and imaging technology on even the best cameraphone are laughably poor in comparison, pretty much by design and their very nature.
Cramming a 5mp sensor on the head of a pin, slapping a "Carl Zeiss" label on a plastic pebble jokingly referred to as a lens, this is nothing more than brillant marketing. The resultant pictures may be slightly better than the iPhones (assuming the associated software and processing hardware works properly) but they'll still be snaps - nothing more.
If you want clear images in low light, or decent flash coverage, a fast shutter for action shots, or a zoom function that's worth using, or any real control over focus or depth of field, or you're at all bothered by noise levels or optical quality, then you have to carry a camera - whether you have the iPhone or anything else for calls.

Iphone has THE most utterly atrocious camera fitted to any "premium" phone since the K750i was introduced, four years ago, the iphone does have some amazing attributes, but let's not entertain any delirious fantasies about it's picture taking abilities please!!
Oh, and i HAVE owned one, along with every other 5 and 8mp camphone from which to base a reasoned comparison.

It's adequate for the purposes of taking snaps with your phone, and nobody's "delirious fantasy" is suggesting anything more than that. I don't think anyone would pretend that the iPhone's "premium" status has ever had anything to do with its camera.
If there's a fantasy being played out here, it's this idea that other "8mp" camphones are worthy photographic tools in comparison.

I just think you should stick the the 5800 tbh, you need a phone that has the option of a browser like Opera so as to reduce your internet usage and you have this already in the 5800 so you're just gonna have to cut your losses and ignore the niggly points. Yes, the UI probably isn't as slick to use as the iPhone, but not many handsets (or any) can say their touch interface works as well as the iPhone. Plus you also have to weigh up what you'd be losing with the 5800 - vid recording, non-restrictive stock SMS app etc etc.
I must admit, it's hard to ignore the iPhone - AND the advertising. It got me afterall! lol But don't give in just because of that, you have to think what suits you all-around
I think the best idea yet is to keep the 5800 and get an iPod touch to fulfil your iPhone fantasies

@Boinng, your comedy level is way better when you not do it deliberately
I have no "A level course" to brag about, but i won several photo contests already, the first of them with a Sony P30 with just ONE megapixel lens...and i do consider there are alot of camera phones capable of achieving great images and to replace dedicated cameras in many situations...and even with the iphone, that is possible, IF there is good light...i donīt think its atrocious...
That said...Apple is completely retarded in not having put a dedicated shutter button and at least autofocus, not to mention macro capability (for documents that would be great)...the 2 megapixels, i donīt mind AT ALL
