GPRS is free on PAYG as they haven't figured out how to charge for it yet.

@Geo2k: I really don't know what to say to that. They shouldn't help you. Maybe you're just lucky.

okay... just to summarise:

GPRS is free at the moment.. will eventually be charged at 2pence for the first accessed page and 1 pence per page after that.

If you want GPRS you only need to call member services and ask for it to be provisioned. Once done [max timescale of 24 hours] you will need to powercycle the phone.

As jalu pointed out earlier, you can send yourself the seetings, PROVIDED that the SIM is already provisioned for GPRS at http://amber.smarttrust.com/O2UK/index.jsp

If you do call the top up line and you are helped you are lucky... advisors have now been instructed to refer customers to the chargeable line, 08705 678 678 or 4445 / keypad 9 on your handset.

Note that you will need GPRS in order to send MMS... the settings can also be sent from the link above and are basically the same as your GPRS WAP settings only there is a Relay Server.

MMS is a fairly new technology in this country so be patient... although you should now be able to send to the other main SPs including orange, voda and T-Mobile... there are still teething problems and there are some MMS probably just floating out in the air somewhere

Are there anny issues regarding the WAP/GPRS/CSD issues that are not mentioned above? Please ask if there are.

regards

OK I have a few questions;

1. When do o2 plan on charging for GPRS access? Will this also take place with the o2 online payg tariff or will it be included in my 300 free minutes? (it better had!)

2. Is it possible to access mobile web through GPRS and my laptop? I've tried everything and got as far as my 7210 feeding me back 'temporary network problem' when it authenticated on connecting. I'm using payasyou.o2.co.uk as the gprs access point on my laptop, but have tried mobile.o2.co.uk also and it says its invalid. Any ideas? Is it possible? Thanks in advance.

(1) GPRS is going to be chargable in June or July, dependant on when the engineers fix our billing system.

Sorry to repeat but it's been mentioned ubertimes in varrry similar threads

You can't, in theory, use data transfer methods on PrePay and I don't know the ins and outs. The main problem seems to be with using different APNs but I'm not certain.

Hey Jalu... Am I right in thinking that currently there are no plans to use the GPRS on the o2online tariff?¿ Unless, as you say in PSMS... if fixed they will include "per page" provisioning such as 500 pages/month kinda thing....

it's a possibility.

I doubt there's any plans, simply because they can't charge you for iyt and the whole selling point of o2 online is *some* free minutes then chargable.

If they embraced totally free internet then that would go down the tube.

They will probably do it once GPRS is chargable.

11am is far too early to be in work on a Sunday
