> T610 - My comment after trying
Bookmark topic
Very rightly said 'There is no phone that is perfect.' , infact the point being that the T610 is the replacement for the T68i. It is indeed better then the T68's in almost all respects. Despite the short commings of the T68's people still buy it, if you read this board more carefully you will notice that some people swear by thier T68's. I think the T610 will be a good replacement for a T68. no more. no less.
ps. From what i got to use of the T610 during the CeBit, all the java apps( Music DJ,etc.) are removable and so ate the Mophun games. Correct me if I'm Wrong.

i would like to ask, if anyone has tried to type or view chinese characters on the t610 hk roadshow ..... it is acceptable ?
does it work with both traditional and simplified chinese ?
which method did they use to type chinese ?
puyin ? stroke ?
also, anyone knows how many ringing tones we can put in for the T610 ?
is it able to receive ringing tones like nokia's or got to compose it ourselves ?
i cant wait to get the bluetooth HBH-60 headset soon after i buy the T610
thank you

Hi all,
I have never said T610 is a waste. You know T610 hasn't been launched yet, so that I want to say my comment and post here, to let Sony Ericsson (I hope they can read it) to improve the phone before commercial launch. About the memory issue, 2MB is acceptable (I think it is a marketing tactic) if a 10KB photo uses 10KB in the phone memory. However, in the prototype, a ~15KB photo uses ~50KB in the phone memory, is it acceptable??? I haven't time to check how many memory does a screen screen use, but I think an animated GIF may even use around 200KB........
I like the phone in gerenal, just hope Sony Ericsson can fix this problem in commercial units. Yes, no phone is perfect. But if 15KB = 50KB, I think users cannot save much things in the phone. I have read an article from Sony Ericsson developer tips, the images in Java have the same memory allocation problem. I really not hope a original 60KB Java programme will use 150KB in the phone memory. Just think what can we save in this 65K colour Java phone with Photo Phonebook function with such ________ (fill in the blank question) memory system.
@michelle318, I'm quite happy with the improvement in Chinese display in T610. The font size of Chinese characters is now similar with English characters, so the display is much more pretty in Chinese display mode and the display with both English and Chinese words are consistent. However, the Chinese font design is still not good and not pretty, just same as T68i. Nokia's Chinese font is much more pretty in my opinion. By the way I am still satisfied with the improvement in T610.
I haven't tried the Chinese input but it should has similar input methods to T68i. Hong Kong version T610 should has 2 input methods, however the "stroke" input is the 5-stroke version which I don't like, instead of 8-stroke in T68i.
We can save as much ringing tones as possiblem until the phone memory is used up. I don't know whether it supports Nokia smart messaging but T610 supports MIDI. We can just send a MIDI to the phone directly from a PC.

That's the photo's actual memory size, not the size it used up on the phone memory. Same as T68i, where a normal background of 5k will show on status with 5k, but if you go to memory status, you can see it used up something like 13k memory on T68i !

Hey goldorak, the screen is showing the information of the photo, but not showing how many memory is used in the phone memory.
I know many one may argue with my comments and do not believe what I have said, or even say I'm a lier and not reliable. Nevermind, you will notice what's the problem when you get the phone (of course I hope the finalized product will not have this problem).
Why did I waste time to try to see whether this problem which exist in T68i still be kept in the T610 in this good chance with so little time? Why didn't me just take more photos with the built-in camera and enjoy trying the phone, and just say "it is perfect" "it is wonderful" to everybody? There is one very important reason for me: I want to find out what problems does the T610 has, and want to express my comment to Sony Ericsson and hope they can listen to customers' feedback and fix it. Bug, quality control and design problems are "well-known" in my country, I really don't like to see the new T610 will still be blamed and loss consumers' confidence to

.

Let's not give this question of memory allocation problem to much space before we get the real phone with the release FW in our hands.
There cannot be a general "overspace" factor of :
50Kb / 15Kb = 3 1/3
That would impose that we have around 600Kb of actual memory on the T610. Plain nonsense!
Such memory waste is of course caused by severe memory fragmentation. Often garbage collection routines is the area which is optimized last, since it is not critical for functional verification. I am confident that the SW people at SE will improve the T610 FW in this area in time for launch. After all it is so much more important in this phone than it was on the T68.
BTW, rumors are that volume production started a few weeks ago.

thank you ver much djk, im not in hk, im in sydney, but i cant wait for the t610 to come out, although i see the bad points about it ...
ive played with the t68i before and see alot of problems with it, such as slow response, not steady, easily "hang" ... etc, so finally im surprised with my patience, now i just cant wait for the t610 to come out, and get the HBH-60 bluetooth headset as well ...
my requirement was just one that is a brand name one, so that i can easily download ringing tones, logos, screensaver, bluetooth, color screen (at least 4096) but hopefully not a nokia one, coz ive been using nokia for a long time, and everyone around me usually use nokia, so im quite sick of it for the time being, i wanna try sth else, and similiar size and weight to nokia 8xxx series
ive use the mp3 siemens 6688 b4, and it keep crashing with the MMC card and the response is slow, like the samsung A400(Queen), but what i like is the refreshing orange color screen and a bigger screen size, and the headset is very good as well. it is only until i take the MMC card out of the phone, and the phone becomes stable ....
anyone have any suggestion for a good phone that fits my requirement ?
ive thought about the panasonic GD88, but cant download ringing tones/screensaver, logo ... etc, so gave up about that, and it doesnt have bluetooth ...
one last question djk, with the t68i, what input method were there ?
i really like the siemen 6688 and the sony Z28 chinese input method, by typing in the mandarin standard pinyin (especially if u know all the mandarin pinyin, it makes life easier than the strokes) (this is just my personal opinion, no offense pls)
