i read in a post that java applications in t610 cannot use gprs, is that true? if yes then is that the reason the messenger applications which even if run on the t610 are not able connect?

ritz_ is right.. there is currently no GPRS support with Java applications on the T610. Hopefully, this will be updated with the next firmware..

I've tried it... the program loads fine, starts the GPRS session, but sadly, it can't use it for anything because of the Java limitations on the T610.. Let's just hope the next firmware supports communication between GPRS/IR/BlueTooth in Java applets. It would also be nice to be able to use applications written for cross-platform Nokia/Siemens.. (I'm aware of the fact that some applets written for Nokia/Siemens work on the T610, but only a few...)

That's not true! there IS a java msn client for T610. I tried it and it works great !!!
check it out : http://www.shapeservices.de/eng/im/index.php
it's not a freeware though so you'll have to develop your own software if you want it for free...

And of course a java app can connect through GPRS, a lot of them do. It will only display a warning saying "the application is trying to connect via GPRS ... ALLOW, DENY, etc.." you just have to click on allow and you're online!!!!!

the T610 definitely kicks ass! I've had it for a week now and it's a hell of a cool phone!
