1-i am on o2 and get the emergency calls only message more than when i use my work sim, which is voda, i still get it. however, i found it to be slightly better on orange, just slightly.
2-i love the phone, no question. i just feel se should have provided better customer support for such a complex phone. i never expected to kill it by charging it. and as its my third one i am gettin pretty pissed off.
3-i paid around 600 because i bought it in germany in january. it appeared to be popular over there at a time when we in the uk had to look at pictures online. i just had to have it.
bought it from berlin communicat, who funnily enough are owned by a subsidiary group linked to charles dunston, meaning carphone warehouse cooperated in exchanging it over.
4-i bought the 802 for 600-ish but the p800 cost nearly 700! why?

@lord viper
just to make sure I am not missing something here: are you saying that you are able to use your SIM on three networks in the UK (O2, Vodafone, and Orange)??
If yes, than your SIM is for sure not from any from those UK operators, as they are direct competitors in UK and won't allow competitors' subscribers to register in their NW. So your SIM must be from abroad - Germany perhaps? And if it is the case, you'd need whether there is a roaming agreement from any UK NW with that foreign operator.
FYI, in general 'Emergency Calls Only' is a result if the network not accepting you as subscriber, or as a roamer, but the network operator is forced by law to allow you emergency calls.
Perhaps another thing: How does the coverage look like when you get 'emergency calls only'?? This message might come from the fact that you don't have good coverage, it should actualy only appear if you have very poor coverage - so perhaps it's worth to check this as soon as you get the message.
And a last comment: in one of your replies, you stated that you wanted productiveness, not idiocy - well, have a look to your first posting, and pls. explain to the esato community where is the 'productiveness' in your posting? (no offence pls., just reminding you).

point acknowledged but not accepted. im pissed off for being pissed about. how that makes me an employee of nokia i do not know. even if it did why should it matter.
also i think your knowledge of phones is somewhat different to mine. when you buy a phone offline you do not get a sim with it. your usage of the word sim has baffled me. one sim cannot hold more than one network providers information.
therefore i meant that when i put different sims, eg voda orange, into my UNLOCKED ,meaning works on all bands without restrictions, it works.
also 'emergency calls only' is very confusing message. when in selfridges starbucks i have 5bars but emergency calls only message. no matter what network im on.
everyone i have spoken to about this, including my own basic knowledge of phones, tells me that this message is an example of the phones inabilaty to register on networks. not the other way round. this is on all networks when i reach starbucks. they have no wifi interupting.
if anyone is in london, try it. if you get a chance.
no offence taken.

one of the main advantages of the p800's battery is that it doesn't suffer from \"memory loss\".. this is stated in the manual.. there is a link on the forum somewhere to the technical details including advantages of the type of batt it uses.. regards, ~woz
