No, you can't upgrade the phone yourself, gotta take it to service centre for firmware flash !

i have a vodafone live version of the phone and i just went to a service center here in sydney australia, but they won't upgrade the software to a normal, non-live version "coz this phone is vodafone live and normal software might corrupt the phone"...

firmware upgrade is free if its under 1 year warranty provided that you purchase your phone locally (cos SE don't have international warranty)

Thats not strictly true. In the manual for the T610 for example (and I'm sure the T68i and others say the same) it says (paraphrasing)

"that SE will replace or repair in the country/region* that you purchased the product."

In my EU manual the * then further described the European Union region (not sure what other regions manual says though)

"If you have purchased your product in an EU country you can have your product serviced in any EU country where the identical product is sold by an authorised Sony Ericsson distributor".

So there is an international warranty although within limits.

Not as good as Ericsson used to be with full international warranty in any country that sells the identical product.
