when did you get the simcard? is your sim mms activated?

to anyone else:
when i try to go to a page other than the o2 website it says on the bottom bar: dns error. do you think i need another different dns? or somthing else?

Okay, here's the situation. You can connect to O2 online via GSM dialup or GRPS. GSM allows you access to the full internet (so you can check email etc), and GPRS only allows you access to WAP sites, I presume by only allowing access to port 80, and restricting DNS, and other little tricks. The upshot being that by using a GSM dialup connection you can access a broader range of services at a cost, or by using GRPS you can access O2 online for free.

O2 Online have (up until very recently) not been billing anything for GPRS access, and I presume it's because they lacked the ability to bill to pay and go customers but still needed to provide GPRS so that MMS would work. They just didn't tell anyone that you were allowed to access WAP via GPRS.

Unfortunately this all stopped fairly recently, and they have instigated proper billing on GPRS connections. Bastards.

I had hoped that because of this they would expand what you can do with a GPRS connection, and allow access to the full internet (you're paying for it, afterall). Alas, it appears that isn't the case.

So, for now, us poor bastards on O2 Online Payandgo will not be able to browse from our laptops via GPRS, and will just have to contend with sending loads of free text messages and browsing WAP pages over GSM without paying a penny. Oh yeah, and calling all our other friends on O2, chatting away for ages since it costs practically nothing.

Oh, it's a hard life
