psikey, I am surprised you have not mentioned how superior pocket IE is compared to Opera. Even when I had a P800 I still preferred to dial out from the ipaq through the p800 to GPRS just so I could use pocket IE. I hated opera!

...and don't forget avantgo which I have been using since my palm V days.

I also use Spb pocket plus, gprs monitor and full screen keyboard but to add to your list of must haves...

worldmate (which is also available for p800)
Coversions in hand (which is also available for p800)
Tube (I have london and Sydney)
of course there is standard msn messenger and you can download icq too.
then there is pocket streets (which you can get from the autoroute cd)
gameswise I have sim city which is fully compatible with the pc version, and others like bubblets, ballsRus, ICBM2 (which is like the arcade game of missile command if you remember that one) and a few excellent others.

don't forget pocket word and excel as is the far superior (compared to p800) inbox client and the built in terminal services client.

the ability to play WMA is great because all my CDs are stored on my laptop in WMA format

you should check out PocketGear and in particular the free section where you can download METRO (for example) which has almost all underground train systems from around the world.

Another thing, and I think most important, in a previous post someone mentioned reception of the phone, that it was not very good.
Is there anything you can tell us about XDA reception against the P800, I have taken into account that the P900 will have pretty much the same radio hardware as it’s predecessor.

Thanks again in advance.

Must admit that I'm not that familiar with using PPC IE as only used it last time with my T68 & iPAQ3970 and had a PAYG SIM.
Pitty I wont be able to get EIDOS TombRaider working on it.
Battery life seams never ending at the moment. Only used it at home at the moment (not left the house yet!) so all I can say about signal strength is I have had no problem making a call yet.

@masseur
Ref:Spb GPRS monitor

The XDA2 uses two GPRS connections:
MOBILE WEB GPRS (always called for the WAP sites)
WAP netwok GPRS (used for internet,email,O2Active etc)

The Spb software only seems to be able to monitor one of the connections. How can I get it to monitor both or do I have to use profiles & manually change.

Already got Avantgo set-up

@JJayMobile

Regarding answering the phone. If you keep it in the supplied belt clip case it could look a bit daft answering a call with the XDA2 but don't suppose anymore that a P800 in the full protection cases.

The supplied case is very nice (saves having to buy one )

@Jah

Have you seen the size of the A920!!! & I didn't know about a combined WiFi memory card. Thanks for info.

Thanks again.

What about size and weight compared to the P800? I use a horizontal case on my belt to carry my P800 - unlike my Clie Palm which is too large to take everywhere. Is the XDA portable like a phone?

With my digital scales

192g without case
244g with case

Without case it feels comfortable in the hand & not too heavy when holding it to your ear.

If in the case when detaching from the belt clip, you obviously have the front of the case flap hanging down. Not for those you see walking round town with a phone permanently stuck to their ear

If your main use for device is as a phone it is not the best choice but if you mainly use it for PDA, Multi-Media, Web, Email, games etc with infrequent calling then it is great. Saying that, if your a person who makes a lot of calls then you can use it with the included headset or by a Bluetooth headset.

The more I use it I believe it comes down to P800/P900 if your main use is as a phone or XDA2 if you want power/flexibility/features of a Pocket PC and not having to carry a phone aswell. Not a device for going out to the pub/clubs.

I paid £329 for my P800 on a contract 1 year ago & now £349 for the XDA2 on a comparable contract. You feel you are getting far more for your money with the XDA2.

Off to bed now, so will try to answer any more questions tomorrow.
I am a Symbian OS fan normally (main thing that attracted me to P800) but have to admit that this version of Pocket PC with this high spec hardware combined with still/video camera and phone is one tempting device. 85% certain I will be keeping it then in another years time see what replacement for P900 is like.

psikey,
great review, been thinking about the XDA2, didnt realize it was out yet...may even try and pick up a 2nd hand XDA on the cheap now.

a friend of mine has the tomtom GPS device fitted to his XDA and it's just as good as any in car GPS system i've used, its the same womans voice telling you "in 50 yards, turn right".

add the total price of the GPS & the phone together and its still cheaper than paying £1500 for in-car satnav.

as for size, i think if your prepared to hold a P800 to your ear a few extra millimetres on the XDA2 wont make you look any more odd.

Well done "Patch the dog", I am obviously dealing with a 12 year old.

Grow up and do your home work.

If you have nothing positive to say, then say nothing, now run off with your little friends.

The whole of the internet and that’s the best you can come up with, sad, but funny none the less. Well done....
