You'd have to mean Series 20, 30, 40 and 60. If that's what you're saying, then you must think that for example 3510, 3510i and 6310i are all the same because they are Series 30. Having or not having colour screen, BT, IR, camera (different S40 phones) etc must mean nothing then.

CSL have a working EDGE network in Asia (it started in September). Source:

Bite, a Lithuanian operator, are waiting to get their EDGE up and running as well.
Sonera's EDGE already works in the biggest city regions in Finland as we speak. You don't even need to change your existing GPRS contract to use it. Just get an EDGE-capable phone and access speeds up to 3 times faster than GPRS.

have finally released something supporting EDGE you will certainly and objectively be convinced about it...
I can find much more EDGE networks running (and in the queue) than one single decently working WCDMA network.
The thing is EDGE is not advertized by many network operators who still think the "3G" hype is on... But the fact is that e.g. Sonera in Finland who have made a strong bet on WCDMA, have launched their EDGE network silently. And it does work very well indeed.
On the other hand, where WCDMA is not available e.g. US, AT&T has announced a couple of weeks their nationwide EDGE coverage in a big advertisement. Cingular is following very closely.
EDGE Mobiles have been selling on a mass market scale for a while now, and it's increasing. "3G" wheelbarrows are far from that..

In fact...... there are currently so many diff possible protocols for getting 3G up and running that many telco's simply haven't made theri full decision yet. This might determine their future choice of handsets as well. There are so many ways to go atm.
EDGE is expected to spread worldwide so quite a few have been involved in building one, even if they are not (fully) operational yet.

Well edge is definetly a good technology but it looks like it will be forgotten just like hscsd.....
I can't talk about other countries because i admit that i didn't do much of research but i think that edge is only a secondary tech to 3g,
like for instance the main operator of slovenia -mobitel- which has about 80% has a running 3g network now , while the second operator (simobil-vodafone) which has only 10% decided that they can't afford 3g networks and they have build up an edge network that still isn't ready,
so in my country you can buy a 3g phone like the moto a835 and you can enjoy the benefits of 3g while you can also buy a 3200 but it isn't really any good,
so i think that at this point you can't say this is better or that (i personally think 3g is better), because it depends where you live, so i guess we would have to wait 3 months......
and about the pcmcia edge card, i think it's nice but just like nokias useless (for me
)
