I've tried a master reset and that didn't solve it, I don't have a terminator dongle but if I think it would fix the problem I will buy one. At the moment I've blocked the connection between the motor and circuit board with a piece of paper so it doesn't vibrate at all at the moment.

updated the software. It shouldn't have returned, so it's more likely hardware IMO.
