The old version kept telling me that "The device is in use."

Restart your PC, and the old PC suite will work fine

Oh, I got it taken care of.

Thanks anyway. By the way, where does m9 get its newsfeed? I would like to feature something similar on my site...

To anybody getting the error 'error communicating with device'.

Are you using Windows XP with SP1 installed and is your version of Windows legitemate!

Reason i ask is that i got the error 5 times in a row with a pirate version of XP on my mates computer, and knackard my phone beyond repair (or so i thought!).

Tried the repair option on someone else's PC with legitemate copy of XP and it worked a treat!

For reference,

I've shied away from any of the online updates in the past, being an Orange locked P900 user and reading many scare stories.

However, just following the instructions and everything seemed to work fine and my CDA162004/3 phone is now successfully updated so I now have a big clock and proper T9 capitalisation etc and whatever else has been mucked around with.

Main problem was upgrading SyncStation to the latest version (see link I posted earlier in thread as the SE site doesn't link properly to the UK-English version). Backed up. Did the update. Restored. Simple as that - took about 30 minutes all in on my 0.5Mb link.

The big clock is a VAST improvement, you can actually see it with the light off now without straining yourself. The T9 improvement is also pretty good - having just sent a couple of SMSs I've realised how much extra work I've just been automatically doing with capitals - it NOW actually works!

So, get the big clock and you won't go blind...cLock I said!

I have organiser R3A06 (I think this is the latest for CDA162004/3, but it's not that old).

There are still some shocking bugs and inadequacies in the P900 as a telephone. SE need to stop wasting out time with puny little "maintenance releases" that make the clock digits bigger and add obscure corrections for developers and send out a version of the firmware that:

- finally fixes the bluetooth headset interaction (aren't you fed up missing calls and having to hard reboot your P900 several times a day?)
- allows flip closed access to all four SMS folders (or at least Drafts)
- implements voice commands for redial and callback to allow proper hands-free operation
- fixes the echo problem in speaker mode
- allows the keypad to be locked when you are on the phone!!
- allows you to set your "divert on no reply". I mean, come on this is a basic GSM setting.

Yes, I use most of the P900's other great capabilities, but first and foremost it is a phone and there is no excuse for these sorts of limitations. Especially the Bluetooth (R1A->R5D? You mean it's still this bad after the 20th update?)
