It seems fair enough to poke around on EMMA. As everyone keeps saying, "without the dongle... it isn't worth it". Ericsson guard their upgrade sequence zealously, by the sounds of it and I don't think anything is at risk by poking around.

I am of the belief that we should ALL be able to, if we desire, write off our guarantees of support and update the software, reverse engineer it, fiddle and poke around with the phones that we PAID for. The phones are ours, but we are prevented from playing with them in any ways other than those SE prescribe to us!

Feh, I say!

No way!
No software company allows for their software being reverse engineered, so why should ?

he-he guys...

Do you really think you can upload firmwaró,

Emma2 & hardlock emulation is not enough. for flashing your phone you need a special service Smart-Card too.

And, as far as I know, nobody can clone it... Well, my be in future..

So is it possible to do it or not? I am confused by whether it is or not as some say it can be done and some say it can't...

E.g. Palm Pilot, Windows CE, etc.

They provide an operating system to which they allow certain interfaces to be made available. If Ericsson allowed people to play with spare capacity on the phone then we could have people writing flashable games, or nice little hacks that make the most out of the hardware. Not everyone wants a Calendar: why not use the space for something more interesting! Not everyone wants all those games: why not delete them and make use of the space.

These are things that would be possible with a more open system of flashing software with open access to how it all works.

Good for us, maybe. Maybe not so for SE

It will never detect your phone, untill you have a special service card installed.
