I do agree with axxxr on certain points, most notably the lack of respect for privacy in posting his pm. Personally I like America, I like what it stands for, I like the fact that it values freedom and justice and I am grateful for the terrible sacrafices they have been willing to make to defend freedom.
Like axxxr I do not think very highly of George W Bush, but then again I don't think many Americans do either. There is an awful tendency in Britain to look down upon Americans as 'stupid' or 'uncultured', but they are far from either of these things. Perhaps people should consider what the alternatives to American domination of world economics and politics are; communism? fascism? an extreme religious theocracy?
I can only speak for Britain when I say that sometimes we do despair at what America is doing and how it is being done. If we use Iraq as an example we can see that in the British controlled areas there is a lot less violence, although there certainly is still unrest, than in the American areas. Britain has had centuries of experience at occupying foreign countries, in some cases in situations worse than what we see in Iraq, therefore people in Britain wonder why America doesn't follow our example.
I don't think we can be too hard on America, after all it is trying, it does make mistakes along the way, but it is trying. We must remember that every day American troops, as well as British and other Coalition troops, are killed because they are in Iraq to try and stablise the country after having overthrown a cruel and tyrannical despot. Whatever the reasons given for the war we must now accept that it has happened and that America is committed to restoring Iraqi rule and that they are committed to supporting Iraq in becoming a democratic nation, in which Iraqis can hopefully live in peace.
Perhaps that greatest of all Britons, he who most embodies all that we hold dear and consider British, and who stood firm by Britannia's side in our hour of greatest need, sums America up best in saying, "'The United States can always be counted on to do the right thing, after it has exhausted all other options."

@scotsboy, I agree with you there, at least with the US dominating world affairs the worst we have to complain about is their 'interpretation' of English, bad movies, and McDonalds springing up everywhere, at least we can slag these off if we wanted without being persecuted!

As long as George Bush's hobby of invading countries persists though, we could be headed straight for WWIII, do not pass go, do not collect £200 etc.

If we're going to declare war on despots, I do agree that we should at least go the whole hog and get rid of regimes in North Korea, Zimbabwe, Burma, half of Africa, etc, as @axxxr has said before.

Whoever is elected President won't have much room to manoeuvre, the War on Terror will still have to be prosecuted; the world's most powerful nation can't be seen to be backing down. As a non-American I would most like to see Kerry win because his values seem most in line with European values, but of course I have no vote in America and my opinion will remain just that.

Subject: NEW Class of AIRCRAFT CARRIERS

The aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan, was launched earlier this year with much fanfare as the largest and most powerful ship of its class in existence. In light of this, Senator John Kerry has promised that if he is elected president, he will be cutting defense dollars where he can because he believes in a lighter, more maneuverable force; such as the "swift boats" he commanded during the FOUR WHOLE MONTHS he was in Viet Nam.

The Navy is already preparing for this possibility by designing and naming a new class of Aircraft Carriers after him. Below, you will find a photo of the new "Kerry Class" Aircraft Carrier. This will assure the US Navy of being an elite and cost effective naval force.
