the only reason that I can really think of that SE didn't really update the Pxxx because they were waiting for Symbian 8 and UIQ 3. Because this software only became available 4th QTR. With this, we can have the same feeling on the totally new smartphone with what we had before when the first Pxxx(P800). I would predict that SE will show it off in CEBIT next year.

What do you guys think the chances are of the P1000 being 3G? It is beginning to sound very desirable, though I won't get my hopes up until I see how it looks. :-).

I believe that the next P Series will have a Symbian OS. I've heard some rumors about Sony in conflict with Microsoft in the issue about the OS of PlayStation.

There is no doubt about that. SE has been using it on their Pxxx phones and they are a major stock holder of symbian and even made more investments.

I hope it has UIQ 3
I also hope SE release some other models of smartphone i.e. non-touchscreen ones as their line up needs such a device(s) and UIQ 3 allows it

@MikLSP
A mid-range/ smartphone would be a good idea from SE, it would perhaps allow them to corner a segment of the market that hasn't really been tapped properly yet.

saw a post somewhere round here with an interview with the chairman(?) of
, saying that they think exactly that. UIQ 3 should solve the problem of only really being suitable for the top end of the market, and will allow a broader coverage of the market as a whole. Providing that allows
to broaden their handset range, especially at the mid-range (T610-K700i), it can only be positive. I don't advocate the Nokia practice of releasing 6 different handsets, all differentiated by one feature, but you can't argue that to rise to the top,
needs to increase market share and appeal to the wider population, not just to the likes of us on Esato. The mass market, where the money is to be made, demands greater choice and that is the only way
can continue to grow - if they become more profitable, they will have more to invest in R&D to continue to make the best Smartphones for us, as they do now!
