Yeah, that's the best way for saving PNGs, JPEGs and GIFs. You can see the difference in quality versus the file size in realtime.
Also, I think originally I just opened the theme in MacMedia PhoneAgent v1.2 and re-saved it with that. It saved a lot of space but doesn't give you as much control over sizes.
I look forward to seeing your new themes!!
