Gawd knows when SE's gonna launch such a phone!

The UIQ website says that UIQ 3 will be available to developers on the 4th quarter of this year. so it ought UIQ 3 phones ought to be available to the public sometime in 2005.

imo, UIQ 3 is not a wise move. Any1 know whether existing UIQ software can run on it. Obviously Series 60 software will not. I hv a feeling some existing UIQ software will not be compatible if the new phone does not hv the same screen cfg as P900/910.

Hence, if existing UIQ software r not compatible, what is the point of the UIQ3 smartphone?

SE will be better off licensing Series 60 from Nokia (like the rest do). But then, IMHO, SE is too proud to do that.

I read somewhere that UIQ 3 will enable porting of applications from UIQ 2 and easier porting of applications from other symbian OS based UI (namely series 60) than porting to UIQ 2. I would hope that this will enable software developers will have shorter conversion times.

i think uiq3 may be a bit too late.
most major manufacturers (except Moto and SE) have announced Series 60 phone.

I agree. But people will still buy it. look at P800. It was late compared to the first Series 60 but is still sold a bunch.

if u believe the stats, the Series 60 outsold the P800/900 by a factor of 8 to 1.

I'm not sure whether nokia can say they have a direct competitor to S700.

especially when you see this:

looks like the S700 is a real cameraphone will emphasis on the camera. (lets not get into the optical zoom discussion because there are a lot of regular cameras out there that don't have zoom)
