yeah, scott free - except for the lifetime of incarceration in a mental institution, probably in restraints and under almost constant sedation.

It depends, if its something utterly horrific they should die, but by the same token, the legal (british and american, anyway) system is basically set by the bible, and the bible states you must not kill, does that apply to executing murderers too?

I think its injustice. Many rich go scot free and the poor suffer. It isnt right to kill a man who has killed another to deter others from killing. Or law should be truly equal for ALL! Then they should be executed immadiatley and not allowed to linger in prison for years!

the reason it takes so long.. in india is because of all the appeals process, right from the local courts to the supreme court. and the presidential pardon. it all takes a lot of time.
and, they say... the backlog at indian courts right now... would take 117 years to clear each and every case, without registering new ones!!
thats cos, a lot of people just litigate/petition on really small matters. therefore the bigger, more important cases stagnate cos they give equal importance to all cases.

So death penalty should be done away with until matters are sorted. Even the britishers who introduced death penalty in India, have done away with it. It's barbaric. Instead the convicts should be engaged in socially useful work

Oh, no my friends, death penalty wasn't introduced by people, but by God as the extreme punishment for extreme crimes. You guys being so young have no idea of the pain caused to families by bastards like Dutroux and co. Yes, flawed legal systems like the US one where stupid judges make laws manipulated by ACLU type of morons, make people sick about the issue. It is a horrible but a necessary measure. God bless

At the risk of going completely off topic I don't like the idea of some 'supreme being' having ultimate power over our destinies.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, as I believe someone said.
I wish makind would drop the shackles of all these organised religions, be spiritual beings, believe in 'God' if you want to but in your own way, but not be constrained or limited by what some supposed 'leader' of their religion tells them to do. Once we take responsibility for our own actions and justice and stop palming them off onto some mythical supreme being we can start to evolve as a species, and hopefully stop 98% of all these petty wars and squabbles as a nice little bonus.
