This isn't really about the time though.
The point is that there is absolutely nothing on the phone to indicate that it is switched on. Even the 10-year old flashing LED would be appreciated now!
I just got my phone this morning and have spent all day trying to work out why the screen just goes blank!

How about reaching over and touching it. I think that touching almost any button will make the light come on dimmed. I almost wrote something but decided against it. There more important things in the world than the fact that there is no clock on the phone.

Is this clock issue really a show stopper? Would it prevent you from buying a phone? If not, please get over it. Sound like children on the school yard.

the p800 also had the same problem.
then they fixed it on the p900.
now se actually got it wrong again?!?
ijust cracked the display on my p900, so i'm looking for a new phone to get on my insurance. the s700 looks like a sweet phone, but i'm getting second thoughts... if there really is no way of seeing if you've gotten messages or at least the OPTION of a clock, that is sooo last century i don't even know where to start...
i don't care what all you "i'd rather save all the power i could" people say... i can charge every night if needed be. there should be the OPTION.
also the opinion of those who think SE are gods and spends all their savings on a stupid phone so they don't wan't to admit the phone has flaws, doesn't count
i think it seems like esato, once a great resource for se owners, has degraded into mostly a SE appraisal forum... there are less and less smart posts here every time i come by.

@planB
That seems like a rather silly reason not to buy a particular handset. If it bothers you so much, buy a watch.
Unfortunately I would tend to agree with with regards to the increase in tosh.

of course, it wouldn't be the only reason for not buying the s700, but i've read a couple of reviews saying it isn't really all that good as well. and you know, these bad impressions add up...
i'll probably go for it anyway though. it just means i'll have to fix my wrist watch and get used to not having the sms reminder of the p900 to tell me i've got new messages... would be nice to try something other that a uiq phone again. hope i won't miss the apps too much

Intresting views...
Ok I am a technical person, especially being a Computer Consultant and a programmer.
Yet I found the clock on the old phones extremely annoying.. The lighting was not "bright" enough to see the time, and phsycologically, i felt that I was spending too much time trying to read it for it to be comfortable. Turning on a "light" just to read it, was to me one step too far
Secondly, another point, if you are used to whipping out the phone everytime you want to read the time, you end up:
- Looking like a poser
- attracting the attention of "would be muggers" (the S700i is a pretty desirable phone).
I have always prefered a proper watch on my wrist. My Breitling Super Avenger, is easy to read, practical, requires no batteries, stylish, and can be a superb weapon against any would be muggers.
I dont see any phone replacing it.
