I agree with you and I wish SE would reintroduce the battery status indicator too. I don't see why such a useful feature was dropped, hopefully someone from SE might read my suggestion
here.

@boba..picked up a t39m today for 35 pound,open to all nets,in average to good condition.the flip count is 2064.can the housings be changed on these phones mate,and if so,do you know who still sells them?tia

you can pickup t39 cases for about £10 delivered on ebay. they are quite simple to change.

@k700nut - I just sold mine 2 nights ago, with our fellow Filipino Esatonian for only US$ 64.28, complete with extra battery and an ICT-10 holster! It was good buy (not sell) though, as I changed almost all of the covers . . .

@k7 hard to get new covers, to change it is easy with a small practice. I guess its a malaysian according flip counter. How is the batt? All features are ok?
