No, 6630 isn't using UIQ3.0 as its UI, but it uses Symbian 8.0 as its OS (with Series60 v.2.0 Feature Pack 2 as its UI). And Symbian 8.0 is used also in UIQ3.0.
And in future Series 60 will support pen-based UI as well as UIQ will support one-handed use, so these two UI really will be very much alike in the future. And you can see
here in Forum Nokia that also 6630 with its Symbian 8.0 will support animations and transparent components in its themes. So there will be nicer menus in future Nokias as well. That is case also in 3230!
There isn't any UIQ3.0 phones out or announced yet. But either the next P1000? or SE's first smartphone (one-handed UI) will be the first I think.
And before you ask I don't think it is possible to upgrade UIQ2.1 devices to UIQ3.0 as the OS below them are different also. (This was the case with P800 / P900 and all Nokias as well.)

BTW. It would be nice if you could change the headline to something better like (UIQ vs Series60) or (OS's in SE vs Nokia) or maybe put these in parenthesis after the current headline. This way readers get the better idea what we are talking here!

but if all use the symbian... it will end up like windows... and everybody can admit that windows is a os with a hell lot holes... its alot better just use the ui that they belive in... if SE end up like all the others there wouldn't be anything exclusive about them neither... the others are already nonexclusive because they can't be personal like SE... keep up the good work SE...

@weirdboy
Well in some points I agree with you but not all...Of cource Apple s Os is not inflected by the virus or others but that s about usage of these...Maybe SE s os will be inflected by the trojans, worms too.The usage of Apple s just %5 of all net...Windows %95...if I was a hacker I try to block Windows of course not Powerbook s os.

Your reasoning is pretty stupid in fact. Why the amount of users/licensees has anything to do with the amount of holes and bugs in a OS? If the OS gets more users they also get more money from them and can develop more accurate code.
Windows is based on so old and stupidly built system with dll’s etc, that even with all the money they get they can’t make it much better and more stable unless they develop a totally new system from ground up.
Symbian OTOH is quite different, more UNIX-like system, where one program can’t take the whole system down.
What do you mean with “personal like SE”? As I wrote earlier there is themes also in Symbian phones (SE P900, P910, Nokia 6600, 6260, 6670, 7610, 3230 and 6630) and with these you can modify your phone at least as good as with SE proprietary OS. I don’t remember the P900 themes I had some time ago so I’m speakin about Series60 phones now. You can change backgrounds even in information boxes, all icons can be changed (so that you can make 3D-like icons also) and there can be many different backgrounds in different menus. That’s pretty personal isn’t it! Also you can add more software to make these Symbian phones even more personal.
And to say that the different manufacturer phones are all alike is also very stupid! SE has its own UI with UIQ, Nokia has its own with Series60 and Series80. Do you think these are all clones of each other? Also same platform can give different UI for different manufacturers. Look
Sendo X screenshots. Does it look like Nokias screen. And especially the Today screen in Sendo!
Now add here the flexibility of Series60 in future! With different screen sizes (from 176x208 to 640x320) and different methods of use (one-handed or pen-based) the licensees can vary their devices just as they wish.
Now what’s good with proprietary OS?

@traktori2004,u definetely right, evrybody s so personal in symbian,u can do evrything with symbian phones, because it s open source code as same as linux-unix...so it hasnt got a limit for future,u only limited with mankind s brain...Otherwise this conversation goes to os discussion, but when u look out the headline u can a little bit sophisticate that.Yes symbian or se os(this s a different topic too)but we have talked about same models of same phones...what was about?
it was a market play...yes but do you really like it?

going back to the essence of the post:
1. it is called MARKETING STRATEGY
duh.. People have different tastes, and the external look counts. In order to sell more, they need to cater to different tastes. Of course, people want variation and more selection. Maybe, that's why SE is not on top.
i have to agree though, Nokia is really releasing a lot of phones but differences are minimal, but IS IT NECESSARILY A BAD THING?
