I don't have enough experiences with batteries. I mean, even if I own 10 phones with Li-Ion and 10 more with Li-Pol, that would still not be statistically meaningful. So the only thing I can do is rely on what I read in reports and articles. They tell me there is not much difference. And also, there is a difference between specs of a technology and specs of what the makers do with it for commercial reasons.

Li-Pol needs a little more mAh compared to Li-Ion in order to last the same time. A 800 mAh Li-Pol lasts about as long as a 700 mAh Li-Ion.

Li-Pol has a little shorter lifetime than a Li-Ion. If a Li-Ion lasts 3 years (heavy usage), then the Li-Pol lasts 2 years (same usage).

The 1100 mAh Li-Pol battery I am speaking so well of in this thread isn't a sensation - it's about 20-30 percent more usage time. That's the difference I needed in order to charge every second day instead of once a day!

I believe Li-ion and Li-Polymer batteries have practically the same performace in terms of power capacity. Currently Li-Polymers are still under development so @bobafett is right, they could be quite unstable sometimes. They also are known to last quite shorter lives (lesser charging cycles) compared to Li-Ion but they also come out cheaper to mass produce, that's why most manufactureres prefer them. A new mobile phone every year (or less) is quite common anyway so what's the practical advantage of making your batteries last very long?

The rating of the batteries are based on how much current it can deliver for a certain period of time; an ampere is an ampere and an hour is an hour so I don't understand why 800mAh is equivalent to 700mAh regardless of what kind of battery we are talking about. The only logical reason that could cause the difference in performance is the environment that these two are being used in. Li-polymer tends to degrade when used in high temperatures much faster compared to Li-ion. So in a hot weather, Li-ion batteries will tend to last longer than Li-polymer of the same mAh rating.

As a side note, it makes your Li-ion/polymer batteries last longer if you store it at about 40% charge at a low temperature. Also it is better to charge more often and not to discharge your Li-ion/polymer than to wait for it to discharge before you charge it to full, this also helps in delaying the deterioration of your Li-based batteries.

Although I agree with blackspot that 800 mAh is not equal to 700 mAh, there is another parameter: a given technology will be able to store a certain amount of mAh per unit volume, but also it will be capable of delivering that power in a given amount of time without degradation. It also depends on their internal resistivity.
Acid-lead batteries, for example, are capable of huge instantaneous power delivery. Like what is needed to start a car engine. But their power per volume (and/or weight) capacity is low.
All this is simple, isn't it?

li-pols have a couple negatives. For one, they have a higher internal resistance, which means they cannot support as much of a current and subsequently needs more capacity to equal a li-ion.

Also, li-pols will have a shorter life because they are still in development and li-pol does not conduct as well as li-ion.

So, yeah, these are some problems, not to mention the price per mah, li-ion is great all-around, li-ion is better for capacity or space constrained applications. I hope this answers some questions.
