I agree with you, but it doesn't seem to be the case when it comes to mobile phones. I'm not awfully sure why though.

A low end phone is different for different markets. In Europe a phone with a 4096 screen, acceptable display might be low end. But here anything that has a colour screen is considered high end. Phones like the 2100, 3315, 1100 etc are still in vague here. In the town where i live even my T230 Is considered an above par phone! This message was posted from a T230

Well, mp3, cam and all will be standard soon...

but in that respect... why are there some low-end digital cameras... and high end ones? They all take pictures right same goes for mp3 players... why are some "low end" and others "high end"?

Same goes for phones... when all the features become standard... high-end phones will have higher res screens, cams, better dsp functions for mp3s, smaller, better battery life...etc..etc...

It's kinda like the PC market... a low-end Celeron now can out run a US$20,000 server from a few years back... but why is a Celeron considered low-end now? Cuz there are faster machines out. It's that simple.

I personally don't want SE to become another Nokia, unleashing thousands of crappy low end phones that have the same functionality.

I prefer them to stick to the middle and high end market and keep churning out quality goods consistantly.

Hey, you gotta choose your market. Hopefully they don't decide to go for the "phones for everybody tom dick and harry" route. Would suck big time.

I agree that SE should stick to the higher priced premium phones. Why dillute your brand by selling cheaper phones. Porsche, Ferrari, and the other high end car makers have decided to opt for a certain brand of customer and higher margins on higher prices as opposed to a Skoda type model of a car for everyone. Also, it keeps the brands as being a bit more special as opposed to an everyday brand.

@sapporobaby Regarding your comment on the ipods effect on apple, do you think the T610 had the same affect with SE?

Before the T610 came out I didnt know anyone with an SE, but then after the T610 arrived, everyone seemed to have them! Now people are moving onto the K700 and some even the S700.

It seems that way. I remember when the T610 came out, it was like a revolution. Only the T68i, in my opinion, generated the same amount of buzz. I was one of the early adopters that simply could not wait for the price to go down and had to plunk my money down, full price and all. The same is true of the k and s 700's. I would say that there is a "got to have it now" paradigm in effect that SE is capitalizing on. As soon as their newer higher end phones come out, people are "damn the prices, I want one now", of which I am usually the first in line with my credit card out.

Because sony ericsson want to be different - they are unique. They dont only want to supply the market with phones, they want to research and make the phones BETTER

this is what nokia are good at- making phones

sony ericsson are good at- being innovative and introducing new and radical designs and features

and like doing that!

@neb187: the K700 is seen as the T610 succesor so its also targeted at me, i just didn't buy it cause i just don't like it, but this rumoured Clara would be something i would like.
i never bought the K700 cause in my eyes its a mid end phone its as simple as that.

@boba: true i don't see any more SE phones either

@scotboyuk: yes i see that alot of people like the K700 design but i gues they love it cause its a good phone, except from the bad points.
