I don't know with D500, but in very much the same way I also don't like that Samsung style of SMS alert that keeps beeping every minute or so if you don't open the received SMS.

I'm loving my D500. Use it every day. Battery life is excellent. If you use the speaker attachment while playing mp3's the battery can go quickly (solution - buy a spare battery. Very cheap at £19.99 for an official Samsung one). Bluetooth is extremely fast when transferring data compared to my P900 and S700. Plenty of memory, great camera.
Hate my P900. Had way too many problems with it. Spends more time being repaired than in use.
My S700 has blown up and is back with the manufacturer.
The D500 is still going strong and has seen a lot more use than my S700 or P900 did.

The only faults I've found are:-

the drain on the battery when the speaker is plugged in.

and

cant use a case/pouch that uses a magnetic clasp/button/clip with
the phone as the magnet unlocks the phone into slide open mode (slide system uses magnets to work)

@masseur. If your going to sell either the V3 or D500 I would certainly choose to sell the V3 (I did and managed to get £300 for it ) without a second thought.

My 2 cents...

I have the D500 too. And after using it for about a week, I'm heading back to my "old" T630.

Why? well, I simply listed the good points and bad points about it and in the end realised that for me there was too much bad points.

'+'
. DESIGN!! (come on this is mostly why this phone interests us)
it feels solid and looks really classy (beware of the fingerprints though)
and the slide is a really nice concept that we should see more often.

. Screen: it is beautiful and very readable. it is a bit small but hey the phone is small.

. Camera: it's quite good I think

. Bluetooth.

. Memory: 96MB is not so bad for a phone (not so good for MP3 though)

'-'
. Interface: though it looks nice, sort of skinnable also, I have mixed feelings with the interface. There are some good ideas but some are very bad (it's a pain to activate BT for ex menu->connectivity->bluetooh->activate->on and the same for off and also for Irda)
Having used SE for quite a while and Ericsson before that, I know that old habits would make it hard for me to get used too but after a week it not convenient enough for me. So take that into account if you're a big SE user (which you're probably are since you're here

. MP3:
Well, it's a nice function in itself but TOO LIMITED so it makes it a bit pointless in the end. Can't do SMS or watch photos while listening the music. The controls are limited and I haven't found a way to adjust the sound (not the volume). To top it, the supplied earphone/mic kit is unbelievably sh*te... It would barely hold in my ear without moving so walking in the street it's always falling... the quality of the sound is also not great.
It seem though the mic is quite ok from what the persons I called told me.

. Bluetooth/Java
I put those two together because it has been impossible for me to transfer any java program to the phone (I read all the tweaks and stuff on the web I used 2 different BT usb dongle but nada)
So, ok for transfering pics, sounds, vids but that's it. I also had trouble with the sync app (that was syncing on screen but not in reality and only with the irda)
It was also impossible to download a java program from a wap site.. the phone will hang and then reset.

. Wap: again interface is not very good for this one and spoil a bit the experience. IT IS VERY BUGGY! I often found myself with the phone rebooting on its own.

. Phonebook: You have to choose: keep those contact on your phone OR keep them on your SIM not both! Well, if you want both then you will have both all the time in the list. Say Hi to duplicates!
There are no option to choose which source to use for the phone book.

. Battery Life: 2 days not more for a fairly reasonnable usage: avg 15min call time / 10 min BT / 20 min JAVA
If I go to 30 min call /1h BT/40min JAVA it will hold barely more than a day!
So, it charges quite fast (90min) but discharge also quite fast..

. And the worst of the worst: DON'T USE IT AS YOUR ALARM CLOCK COZ YOU WILL NEVER WAKE UP!
To use the alarm clock, you need to:
1. leave the phone ON all night (so expect battery dead in the moring)
2. remove the quiet mode if you are using it coz it won't ring (and no it won't vibrate either)

These are the major points there are other smaller good and bad points (i won't detail all of them)

So, back to T630, I'm going to sell the D500 and keep the money for either the K600 or the Clara (when they come out)

Cheers!

just sold my D500. I'm keeping my JAM (obviously ) but had to make a choice between the V3 and the D500 and I just couldn't let the V3 go

The D500 served me well for a week and I still have no complaints
