> Coverage in Seattle :)

jh67,
In case you haven't had your question answered yet about coverage in Seattle, this might help. T-Mobile's coverage is decent in this area but they have too many users and you will get a lot of dropped calls. At&t just recently launched their gsm service and is still getting better. I think that Cingular is the best choice because our network is great and they allow users to roam on At&t at no additional cost. Att does not offer their customers roaming on the Cingular network. In addition, if your are providing your own phone you will not have to sign a contract. The other carriers do not offer this. I think that Cingular is your best choice, of course I am a little biased because I work for them in the Redmond, WA store (Just outside Seattle). Hope this helps, you are welcmoe to email me if you have any further questions.

Alden > Thanks a lot
I'm actually gonna be staying outside Seattle, in Snohomish
Dont know yet how long I'll be staying,..but I'm gonna try to look for a job over there.
I did also consider roaming across my own operator here in DK, using the US-provider,..but this will apparently become far too expensive in the long run,..so I'll be looking for one of your solutions instead.
Will just have to figure it out, when going there on the 5th of november. Looking forward to seeing Seattle

jh67 > I would go with T-Mobile when it comes to cellular provider AND a job. Looking forward to work there myself one sunny day
However, there are always interesting startups to keep an eye on.

Atterbom > Gonna look at that one too
I'm gonna bring my own T68i,..that would suggest Cingular,..but I will have to check it out once I get there.
Actually just wondering about something,...just read about the new Microsoft/Orange phone-pda SPV,...I mean, this phone is launched by a specific operator Orange,..can you guys get this phone in the US ?
Is Orange in the US,..or is the phone simply distributed/sold with no contract ?

Jan, Orange isn't in the US and I read that the SPV is only being sold in the UK in conjunction with an Orange contract. It's locked to Orange so right now there's no way to use it over here, even if you could get one.
Too bad, I've also been looking at that phone.

JEFF > I can get the MS/orange phone here in Denmark too,..also with Orange,..but also buy it "Simlock-free".
I could of course bring one of those with me...if it would actually work with the US-providers,...probably havent been tested with them.
The phone resembles the Zendo Z-100 a lot,..actually the same phone, so that one might be available in the US.
Well,..we'll just have to wait and see.

Jan, you can buy the SPV Simlock-free?? Wow I wouldn't mind testing that over here. Do you know if you'll be going to Comdex yet?
As far as I know neither the SPV nor the Sendo has been released in the US to date...

As other people in this forum I am moving to Seattle soon too. I am biased to T-Mobile but always out to find the best provider. In Europe you can buy pre-paid sims so you don't have to sign any one- or two-year contracts. That way people can find out who has the best coverage etc. The only provider I have seen offer this in the US is Virgin Mobile but they run on Sprints network and not GSM. Anyone know if there is a nationwide US GSM provider offering pre-paid sims??
jh67> do you know if the SPV is a triband and supports the 1900 GSM frequency used here in the US? Have you been able to compare the SE P800 with the SPV/Sendo?

amagab, both T-Mobile and Cingular have more-or-less nationwide networks, although Cingular is not yet all GSM. They both offer pre-paid plans at least in certain areas. In Seattle you'll find GSM pre-paid from both carriers.
The SPV and Sendo are tri-band but won't be available in the US until next year. They use the MS Smartphone platform which isn't PDA-centric like the P800, which runs Symbian OS.

Yes we can get the SPV sim-free,..a friend of mine is testing it right now
Orange in DK is actually developing the software/implementation for the SPV.
As Jeff is saying, I guess too that either the SPV or the Zendo will come to the US...and yes they are tri-band phones.
Yes, I should be going to the Comdex,..for some 2 days or so
I'll be on the Nextlink Bluespoon booth.
