Seriously, the best is to hook it up to stereo/surround reciever and use that speaker system as no existing computer speakers can hold a candle to a proper set IMO.
definitly agree, my audio system is conected to my pc and there is no way ps speakers could compare.
altho i have one question, is there any way to also conect a subwoofer to the equation?

I agree, i had a creative speaker system and doesnt compare with my sony minicomponent (240w x 2) wich im using with my pc right now. I have to admit that playing Matrix with creative speakers was awesome but at the time to hear some music my MC sony is the best.
@the sub woofer question
If u have a 5.1, 6.1 ... sound card, one of the outputs should play low sounds only, u can connect a sub woofer there or even a guitar bass amplifier

For computer based speakers: (Those little sets that have the built in amps and imo will always be inferior to real speaker setups)
1) Altec Lansing (sp?) Quite simply the best speakers you can treat your PC to without going to an amp, a mini system or similar.
2) Logitech - quality, design, and the sound is amazing
3) Creative and a very long way away third. Everyone gets their rocks off about creative but to be honest i've always found them a bit tinny and mostly ugly.
4) If you've got a good sound card (a high end creative, a mid range phillips, mid range hercules) then output to a mini system if you can, the sound should be much crisper.
5) If money is no object, home theatre system amp, jbl tower fronts, jbl center, choice of sub and rears, opticle cable in, and people constantly shouting "TURN THAT DOWN!"

I'm suprised that nobody has suggested the Logitech Z-680 kit.
These have to be -the- choice if you're a real bass-lover.
I've been using them for quite some time and nothing comes close. To give you an idea of the power of the bass, i was listening to some pretty bassy music, and the vibrations were powerful enough to make a Hard Drive fall off a shelf 2 meters away from the subwoofer.
If that's not insane enough for you, nothing is..
(Note: Don't say there are more powerful subwoofers/amp combinations around, i'm referring to PC speakers

)
They're pretty nice quality too.

My two bro's have the
GIGA WORKS Creative
&
Logitech z5500 digital
I have the good but not as good compared to them ^ Altec Lansing ada885
People argue all the time between which is better (Creative Gigga works or Logitech z5500)
The giga works have more power on paper. They come with 7 satelites and a bit more powerful sub.
The Logitechs come with 5 satelites and a less powerful sub YET a bigger sub

Logitech's are all Digital.
When i say a less powerfull i mean by pen on paper. My bro's both agree that the logitechs are better. The bass is OUT of this world! Especially when surrounded by a wooden container or in a wardrobe. Some guy reviewed these and said that this deff women complained and call the police that there was soo much bass, as next door in the flat was found, like 5 pictures smashed out of there frames.
They have soo much bass. Beautifull sound, digital, soo clear. They're my favourite between the two.
I think that the Creatives have the ability to go louder but they dont have the digital sound. The sub is great and not really much differnt between the Logitech ones. These are a little bit more expensive and sound amazing to.
It is a hard decision but i would proberly pick the Logitech's becasue of the digital sound and the fact they cost less.
Either way Can Not Go Wrong with any of them.
Beautiful!
