okay... i've had my p900 since 2003,
just upgraded to the latest p910i firmware
it cost me $25 CAD... so.... $20 USD?? i think it's about 1:1.2 now...
anyway...the functionalities between p900 and p910 are dead similar
after the upgrade, the p900 can use ms pro duo (i have my 512MB)
and after the upgrade, quickword/quicksheet/pdf+ are all preinstalled in the rom, (don't worry, even you do a cold format of C, they're still there) (that's a $50usd value, i can't believe i spent that much money buying quickoffice for p900 b4 the upgrade... btw, quickpoint is useless it's too slow to view actual slides..)
the difference....
1. P910 has 32MB of ram and P900 only has 16MB
this is what i find to be the most important factor
every program want a piece of RAM, so they go away fast....
for example, vrally need 5MB, sometimes you even need to restart the phone (p900) to play that game because even after closing all the programs using taskman or whatever, some memory is just lost... (inefficient programming?? need free() and delete())

2. p910 has 64MB internal storage and P900 has 16MB
no a big deal for me, everything is installed on external MS.... the only thing i find that uses internal storage is caching webpages from opera.. but for p900 with about 12+MB usable space, it takes quite a while to deplete so not a problem... unless you have lots of programs you want to install on internal storage so you can swap the external MS for different movies and stuff (because programs you install on ms, naturally can't be run if you remove them...)

3. P910 has a rather interesting keyboard... well, never owned a p910, don't know what it feels like... the functionality aside, from what i've read, it's a strong keyboard, you can hold your p910 on it... p900 however, i think that little pad will break if you only hold that..

4. the screen, according to howardchui.com, the color difference isn't significant, people who say they're very different, they probably never see the screens... they say so based on the numerical value of #of colors. well, they look about the same... well, it may be just a bit brighter on the p910, but all the same....

about the conversion FAQ
1. the amount of RAM left is only a bit smaller. P900 nothing installed, about 8.36MB ram left, after upgrade, about 7.6MB
2. internal storage is about the same as before 13+MB left
3. speed is a little little bit slower, noticable only in flip-closed mode, although i said noticable, because you can sense it, but it's totally acceptable, doesn't really affect anything other than flip-closed (i think it's because the icons look prettier?? well they do)
4. duo pro... yes, mine is running 512MB
5. bluetooth, doesn't work with bluetooth headset no more... (at least not with my HBH-65... but it DOES work with all other bluetooth functions such as paring with computer for internet, syncing and stuff

so, after upgrading, the only difference with the p900 and p910 is
ram, internal storage, display, keyboard...
internal storage and display can be ignored, not significant
so overall... ram and keyboard...
price between actual p900 and p910 is 100~200 CAD
now you can be the judge...
i'd buy a second-hand p900 and upgrade it...
(well, of course mine was new, just needed to have it...2 years old now)
last words.... if you can afford p900, you can certainly afford p910...
although as i explained they don't differ too much
it's still great to have the latest gadget...
indeed i still think the p-series are the best...
especially for battery time, it's very impressive...
the only only two drawbacks are lack of WIFI and 3G...
well we don't have 3G service in canada anyway...
WIFI... hmm... well... GPRS is just too expensive...
the first time i got this phone, i played with GPRS for a while...
when the bill came.... i almost killed myself... $370CAD...!!!!
resist!!

gprs is free for me
your talking about P905 right?
..yea P905 is just a P910 with less memory and no qwerty keyboard. thats basically the main 2 differences! everything else is the same (apart from bt).
when u upgrade it starts off a bit slow but the more you use ur P905, the faster it becomes. mine runs at full speed

Thanks Dikai for this clear summary!
Still have 2 questions though:
- Is there a limit on the size of MS Duo Pro's: not sure it's on the market yet, but will we ever be able to use 1-2Gb?
- Any idea whether BT would work with one of those Handsfree BT Car kits?
Cheers
Greg

the limit for duo pros is theorically 32 gb.

if you cannot use handsets, i think you wouldn't use car kits as well, wanna experience it

Go for the 910.Only had the odd 'restarted to improve performance'with the 910...but happened quite often with the 900.You can multitask a novelty app, opera and listen to the music player on p910 for ages without crashes or restarts....On the p900,it's a different matter. So what's the point in a 905 upgrade?I can't see one.In addition, the 910 has better screen, looks much better, and is easier to sell.Enough said.Good luck in your purchase.
