Thinking about it you could get your mum to insure the car under her name as it would be cheaper for her because of her age and how long she has held her liscence.

Then just get her to put you on the list of drivers then you pay her the insurance.

Now Rover have gone bust, all it means is that prices are very low. The spares are readily available, and for 2grand you can get a newish 200 that's very tidy, and it'll leave you enough change for a tartan travel rug! This message was posted from a WAP device

most insurance companys dont let your parents insure cars under there name anymore for there children, to many people did it for young people and premiums went higher. My parents trid it with my brother a couple of years ago and no insurance companys would let them do it.

I have had vauxhall, Seat, BMW, Peugeout, Volvo... no one comes close...

Japanese cars are the most reliable and have the best ergonomics.

Don't get the Rover, get a 92-95(EG) or 96-99(EK) Honda Civic instead.

You may miss out on fake woodgrain and worn-out leather, but you'll get a superbly engineered, well built, reliable car, with sharp steering, crisp gearchange and excellent brakes. (The Rover 200 was based on the Honda Concerto/Civic for many years, but Honda did it better)

They come with plenty of engine options:

1.5 Litre Single OverHead Cam VTEC-E (economy)
1.5L SOHC
1.6L SOHC 115bhp (great engine this)
1.6L Double OverHead Cam 135bhp (recommended)
1.6L DOHC VTEC 160bhp @8300rpm (highly recommended)
1.6L DOHC VTEC Type-R 175bhp @8500rpm (sell your grandmother)

Newer versions have 1.7L and 2.0L iVTEC engines.
There are plently of performance parts available for Civic's too, if you want to do-it-up later on.

I was a Honda Service Technician for 6 1/2 years, so I know how good they are (and how poor the Rover is in comparison).
I had a 1994 Integra VTI-R 1.8L DOHC VTEC 170bhp for 3-4 for years, it's still going strong at 240,000kms despite many trips to the 8000rpm redline.

insurance boys @carkitter....

That would bankrupt any mum on the 3rd party or named driver... 115bhp heck.... that would be the fastest thing to the cross garden for a newb... given him a 170+bhp and bye, bye....

Next visit would be in hospital or worst.... oh ok been there...
