Most things if they don't run in dos mode but install to windows will run in XP if you try the compatibility mode. IE I use that all the time to run Dungeon Keeper.
If it installs an icon at all, right click it and check the "Compatibility mode" tab, then set it as windows 98..
If its dos then yeah dosbox would be the trick, or there are a couple of other programs out there that will do the same as well but I can't remember the name off hand.
