Vodafone sell the V800 with all their branding on it, logos, menus, etc, also means you must download your ring tones from them. A lot of people including me dont like having this forced on them, and would rather have a phone as Sony Erisson would sell it. Flashing is a way of removing all this voda crap and restoring to the way SE would have sold it, the Z800 is sold by SE and is alot like the V800, you can flash your V800 to Z800 to have a non-vodaphone.
This is the way I see it anyhow.
If you want to get rid of the logos on the phone itself you can buy new SE covers from ebay.

thanks for explaining...now i understand what u mean, and i agree with u about having to have what they want u to have just from them...but i would'nt have a clue how to flash .....

...is there anywhere i can get it done? or is it a case of putting up with their stuff?............and if i did get it done is there a good chance of it being knackered for good?....

I personally would not like to send my phone off to someone else, but it cost's around £24 to do yourself. But I would recomend reading up on it very thoroughly if you don't want to kill your phone. I was planning to do mine tonight, but the web site where you download the files is not up and running.
For £24 quid you get the cable you need to connect to your pc and 2 credits for the software you use, you can download the software from the sellers web site, along with how to's and drivers for the cable.
Have a look, I'm using DaVinci's SE remote unlocker, bought through kobonet because they supplied the cable with the credits.

If you can live with the branding, I would not bother with the flashing. If by chance you do something wrong you can end up with a damaged phone and you will have to have someone "un-damage' it. At a cost most likely.

Well guys it worked, my phone is now flashed to Z800. Had 1 crash during flashing, but because it never got to finalize I never lost my credit.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my posts, and any questions you guys could not answer my reseller did. I guess they are worth keeping in touch with.
Bye bye voda crap and bring on the campagne covers, oh i've still got a voda a logo on the screen lens, but what the hell.
Thanks again to sapporobaby.
Not a good screen shot I know, but you get the idea.

Hi guys,
Ok now I have the phone flashed and working as a Z800, all I need to do is set up my "Data communications" and "Internet profiles". I have had a look at my father in laws V800 and the pofiles are locked so I can't check the settings, but the following are listed:
Data Comms
Vodafone WAP
Vodafone Internet
Vodafone Prepay WAP
Vodafone Prepay Internet
Internet Profiles
Vfe Prepay MMS
Vodafone MMS
Vodafone Prepay
*Vodafone (* current setting)
Does anybody out there knowhow to set these up manually?
I know you used to be able to get vodafone live! settings sent to your handset from voda by going to
www.vodafone.co.uk, but I could not find anymore.

yeah its still there but they've buried it a bit now whereas there used to be a link from a drop down menu on the home page
unfortunately the vodafone site mostly uses sessions so I can't give you a direct link to much but I found them by going to "site map" and going to the various sections for which you want settings
you could try
this link too, for example

no, I wouldn't expect them to be as the V800 is Vodafone branded and so comes with the settings and the Z800 isn't out yet on Vodafone
however, recent SE phones seem to accept settings from other SE models, for example I chose K700 to setup my K750, so I'd suggest trying the same. I'm fairly confident that will work
