if you do A levels and go on further to get a degree, you are far more employable then someone who left school at 16

hes 21 and guess what, he left school at 16
yer ur more employable with a degree in banking, if its a banking job, what if there are no more banking job's? the bloke with 1 years fork lift truck driving is more likely to get the stock pickers job than the person with law degree
Uni, A levels and anything else is great, and i fully agree its the right move if you want to move into a carear where these sort of Q's are required, but to suggest "stupid" people leave school at 16 is both misguided and stupid and to be honest show's your arrogance

Spot on dj. I left school at 16, i'm the accounts and customer services manager for an international company. Im 23. Its not what you do at school, its how you approach life. I know a few people i went to school with, they went to Uni for 4 years, got into debt, and are now stacking shelves in Morrisons...Why bother going to uni and getting into debt when the government has made it so easy for you? Minimum wage is a fabulous invention. Leave school at 16 and work, and earn the same as your mate who did an apprenticeship, went to university, did 4 city and guilds courses etc...

maybe in 20 years time he'll be better off than me but who knows??
its the person not the bit of paper that gets you jobs.

i think its true that employers should look at the person themselves and not the papers with their grades on it. But in todays society, a lot of jobs are based on what you have written on a bit of paper. With a degree you are much more flexible as to what jobs you can do than someone who has left school at 16.

So you're telling me, batesie and dj, not to generalise when YOU are generalising yourself saying there is no point in staying on. Lol, dont be a hypocrite. Maybe i generalised i admit, but as solid says you are far more employable. It's not about getting the job, its about the jobs you could get.
Whooope, and delivery driver. I know someone that stayed on and now is a mechanic on a wage of about 70,000 a year. So what's better?

Just because you have a qualification doesnt mean people will want to employ you. The norm these days is to have qualifications coming out of your ears...and work in asda...because you've spent so long with your head buried in books, you havent learned any real skills, like how to impress at interviews...or even how to answer a goddamn telephone!

How am i generalising?? i didnt once say its pointless to stay on at school, i stayed on, it didnt do me any favours but it certainly helped my mates. I was simply saying your remark where you said people who leave school at 16 are stupid was a ridiculas thing to say, because its a proven fact you can do just aswell in life with or without further education.
University's, 6thform and colleges are infact great at producing a properly qualified work force, because it DOES matter about what Grades you have, but leaving school at 16 is not "stupid" if thats the choice they make then so be it.
I dont care if your "friend" earns more than my mate, in fact if there was a pile of things i cared less about that would be proping up the pile, i mentioned my friend as an example that you dont need further education to do well in life its not a contest of how much our friends earn!
