I suppose it comes down to what you want the device for - primarily its a phone, so IMHO it should have a very specific phone keypad for its basic function - everything else is an "extra". The blackberry range is an always on email device with a phone tacked on - so the keyboard layout suits the primary purpose.

My personal view is that seeing as how the p990 is now really coming up for 2 years old, there must be a replacement in the pipelines which should be the "flagship" model so it really should make the P1i / M610 / W950 look like they are the bottom of the range.

I've asked this before but noone seems to concern to make a reply... What more do you want SE to put into a phone that's not in the P1i already?

GPS just to say one thing - but what is it that people are looking for in the replacement of the P990 that is not found in the P1i since so many recommend to wait for the "truely" replacement of the P990i...?

Actually I'm pretty content with my P990 but if I was given a choice where I could get my own custom built phone, I would ask for Wi-Fi "g" support and "EDGE" support over P990, with perhaps one of those newer active LCD screens - and of course well tested fw. I would like to keep the form factor of the P990. Having tested both, I do prefer to use my P990 with the flip.

Seeing as no one has answered you sensible question i will try.

Firstly it should have WiFi g and not so much for the speed improvement but for better compatibility with non b WiFi networks which are growing as b is getting very old now.

HSDPA as this is really a must have for new Data devices as the speeds it already offers are much faster and continuing to improve so should be in any new Data centric device.

The full range of mobile coverage which means more bands covered especially in their business devices as most businessmen travel and need to be able to us their devices every where and lets not forget the American Data market also shouldn't be overlooked.

A more powerful processor to improve performance the current chip used is very old now, also a full version of the graphics chip would be nice and help satisfy a lot of users demands.


The Ram issue SE have addressed in the P1 so this is no longer necessary but really this is the only tech improvement in the P1 over the P990 plus of course a slightly better camera but there are those that loved the M600 because it didn't have a camera and won't be able to get the P1 because it has a camera and they are not allowed one at work.

I think problem with camera in P1i will be solved. As you know Lizzy (M610i) is on it's way. I hope they'll put more RAM in it also. But still there won't be HSDPA and many more

I see your points but still I believe we're soon at the point of specifications that it's only nerds that can notice the differences (and in a way hurra for that) but I just dont think that the ordinary user notices the differences between wifi b and g and a new graphic chip or whatever - hence why put it in and make it more expensive? If it works it works

This is ofcourse shot down if SE plans to launch more expensive phones but my point is that we now with P1i have so much nice specifications in one phone and yet the size is small What more is there (almost ) to hope for...?

To be honest my current device doesn't have HSDPA and is more than fast enough i just won't buy my next device with out it. As for a camera centric device been there done that and didn't use it enough so no longer want one in my next device either.

@ Foxhunter as i said it is not just about speed it is about ease of use as not all networks work with b and b/g compatibility is the problem here as dual mode can reduce the speed of the whole Network.
