The 35C limit is nothing new though. I was curious about this when they claimed to have only updated that support note to include the 3GS as well as the 3G, so I had a look back through the internet archive. Check the operating temperatures and "non-operating temperatures" of the original iPhone on this page from August 2007 -

exactly the same as the figures in that support document that everyone's making a big deal of now.
I'm not denying there might be an issue with the 3GS - my own 3G seems to get a bit warmer since the 3.0 upgrade - but it's fact that officially nothing has changed, and the 35C limit is not news.
