I do hope Sony would also touch the modular phone concept. its about time that we see real innovations. to be honest there hasn't been a revolutionary innovation on mobile technology since the advent of iPhones/Droids. fingerprint scanners and flexible screens be darned, they're uninteresting to say the least

and don't even talk about smart watches. who wants to charge a watch? seriously... most people don't even use watches these days.
yeah, that modular tech looks really cool and futuristic.

So, is Sharp or LG going to supply sony the 5.2 inch FHD IPS displays?
as far as i know, they are the only companies to manufacture a 5.2 IPS FHD displays already in mass production.
look at this sharp smartphone ready for release in december (with that 5.2 inch display):

i'm not sure how good ultra thin bezels will feel in a smartphone in extended use but LG got owned in the bezel department
anyway, either that display or g2's display is a winner, and no more viewing angles complains.

So, where do we stand on the likely launch of the next flagship from Sony? I'd say expecting it at CES or MWC is too soon, but that's exactly what happened to the Xperia T last year when the Z/ZL came out. I think ramu recently indicated Sony was going to continue the 2 flagship/year cycle, so if that's true (please correct me if I'm wrong) then are we likely to see a new flagship in just a couple months???

WOW.... you're statement is just so false - and shows how little you know of demographics.
Personally, after not owning a watch for 13yrs I've recently purchased a classy Swatch model - basic Chronograph and it's VERY sharp, matches my skin tone and dress attire.
1. Demographics show in the western world youth under 25 don't and haven't owned a watch of any kind (since being a toddler) - new generation.
2. Those older than 30 roughly half in the western world own a watch and have for many years. The majority of which will continue to by them.
3. Those that have professional positions in large corporations - having an office job own a watch. Majority I'll bet that wear dress clothes do.
OF course charging a watch doesn't make much sense today - even in the age of the consumer smartphones - however the fact of purchasing a specific watch battery for your particular model is just as assinine as well. Ever half to look for a watch battery that matches voltage and size and shape? Arrgh!!
I'm even willing to bet those youth - 16-30 in both China and Japan DO actually own a watch (and it's not a smartwatch either for more than say 5%).
Owning a watch today, is like owning a proper pair of dress shoes ... it shows class, demeanor, and character.

I still use a wrist watch (a rugged Timex
) though yes I don't like Smartwatches (and I'm 24
), I was never a fan of charging my watch every other day at least
if that smartwatch has a capability to self-charge by whatever means it could then I'll consider joining the smartwatch craze.

^Well we really need something to talk about, as it seems rumors and leaks would be much less for this year.
So be it, but the fact is this thread remains a rumor thread. Not a general Sony discussion.
I'd much rather come to this thread and see no new RELEVANT rumor posts than have to read a page or 2 only to find nothing relevant was posted. It means things may get a little quiet, but hey, at least things stay on track!
Anywho, moving along. Back to topic.

I have sony smartwatch 1 and I really love it. I have to charge the watch once (sometimes twice) a week so basically the battery can last almost 4 days. To me, smart watch is very convenient. The best part is, you can keep the watch in your pocket and still be able to read sms, facebook notifications, reply sms (pretext), change mode/settings etc. This is handy when you are driving or in the meeting because you don't have to look at your phone at all. and on top of that, you can impress people when you use the watch and when they see the `sony' word on the watch
